Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Taken from shaggy.

I hope the CIC and AAU are taking note of this! That place and Imperial Grand Wizard Paterno used the academic side of the university to pass off washed up defensive coaches as fucking Deans. We're not talking about giving them a job in the AD or as a fundraiser or as some fixer for the President, but as a Dean of the fucking College of Science.

Ped Aggy faculty, what say you?

I think it's an open and shut case.

You think it's an open and shut case.

However, my faith in those that run these organizations of higher learning is so low at this point I will only believe something will happen to that institution until and if and only if I see it and not before. I honestly do not think anything that will actually teach the institution a lesson will actually occur at this point. Maybe it's cynicism.

I think the NCAA will get plenty of support from the 3 investigations to put together charges against Ped State under NCAA rules. They are under pressure to "do something". In spite of what they may say, they hear the voices of the media and sense the outrage of the general population. They will have a say. What form that takes will be interesting but the letter to the university gives us a hint. Those questions were posted earlier in this thread.

"Like everyone else, we are reviewing the final report for the first time today. As President Emmert wrote in his November 17 letter to Penn State President Rodney Erickson and reiterated this week, the university has four key questions, concerning compliance with institutional control and ethics policies, to which it now needs to respond," the NCAA statement read. "Penn State's response to the letter will inform our next steps, including whether or not to take further action. We expect Penn State's continued cooperation in our examination of these issues."

So. Where was the "compliance"? Where were the "ethics"?

Paterno and the Penn State athletic department directly enabled someone associated with the football program to receive improper privileges through their facilities. It's just that in this case we are talking about something much more serious than free tattoos. LOIC is warranted in this case.

Penn State To Renovate Areas Where Boys Abused

Penn State plans to renovate the building where former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky sexually molested boys. University spokesman David La Torre told The Associated Press on Friday that Penn State plans to remodel the football shower and locker room area as a direct result of Sandusky's crimes. The former defensive coordinator was convicted of assaulting some of his victims in the team shower.
La Torre said renovation plans to the Lasch Football Building were drawn up shortly after Sandusky's arrest in November. But he said Penn State can't move forward until all legal proceedings in the case are over.
Penn State President Rodney Erickson said during an earlier news conference only that there was discussion about "modest renovations" between Athletic Director David Joyner and new Penn State football coach Bill O'Brien.
La Torre later told the AP those renovations include the area where the assaults happened and said they are on hold for now.
Reminders of the Sandusky child sex abuse scandal ? and the senior school officials accused of covering it up ? are all over Penn State's campus and State College. School officials say they are still weighing how to deal with the other imagery associated with the scandal.

I don't think the debate is over (from the B1G execs), but remember when there was talk of moving the Ohio State-TTUN off the final weekend?

And Penn State was supposedly Ohio State's new rivalry game on that final weekend (in the Leaders Division).

It would honestly suck to even call Penn State a rival at this point (and have that game the last weekend).

I didn't take away that the playoffs were the point... I took away that the NCAA only cares about revenue.. not safety, education or anything.. but revenue

Which was a similar point when folks were discussing why was it so bad to sell/trade one's own memorabilia for something they wanted... because the NCAA was cut out of the revenue stream... not that it gave the team or players any competitive advantage.. which is supposed to be the focus of the rules...

I thought it was pretty obvious but that's only because I've seen Whitlock railing against the playoff system for so long. And, of course, the final line (typically the summation) addressed the playoffs. Seemed like he was exploiting a bad situation to further his anti-playoff agenda.

(He completely missed the point too, but that's for the playoff debate thread)

Just to remind people that it wasn't just Sandusky showering with little boys. From yahoo :
More memorable was Anderson, and later fellow former assistant coach Booker Brooks, explaining they too had showered with young boys, either in the Penn State locker room or the local YMCA.
. I wonder if the people in charge also tried to cover this up to.
