Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

Didn't the state withhold the indictment until the week after the Holy 409 was secured? That's some sick [Mark May].

There's no way of really proving or disproving that one way or the other. The stuff about Corbett taking money from the Second Mile's board of directors while his office was investigating Sandusky and the land deal is pretty black and white, though. It's weird how the holy 409 became such a big deal once Joesus passed Eddie Robinson. Eddie Robinson's record was never the holy grail of coaching wins; it was always Bear Bryant's record of 323 wins that was the major milestone.

Sandusky is obviously a huge pedophile, and Joesus was a scumbag. Ex Governor Tom Corbett isn't too far behind Joesus on the scumbag list, however. Corbett took $600K for his gubernatorial election campaign from Second Mile board members while knowing that the founder of the Second Mile was being investigated on suspicion of being a pedophile by Corbett's very office. Upon becoming governor, Corbett also green lighted a sweetheart land deal for the expansion of the Second Mile. That deal was ultimately squashed due to public outrage once the Sandusky scandal broke.

A very legitimate case can also be made that Corbett (as state attorney general) slow played the Sandusky investigation until after the gubernatorial election by assigning just one investigator to look into the Sandusky/Second Mile allegations.
Corbett's not clear either but that has nothing to do with C/S/S and PedPa.

It became the next milestone only because he was never stepping down on his own. Create another goal and use it as a way to extend another 4 years and never give in to pressure to walk away. Pure narcissism.

I think this thread is funny.

I already forget what it was about, but it evolves into whether Penn State will ever be an elite team. I think one guy says that they'll be stuck as a Tier 2 team - Top 10-20, and "occasionally" Top 5. No real arguments from them. (None from me, either.) But it sounds like they're just now coming to that realization.
Since joining the Big Ten (1993), they've finished with the following rankings (AP):
7, 2, 13, 7, 16, 17, 11, NR, NR, 16, NR, NR, 3, 24, 24, 8, 9, NR, NR, *, *, NR
(source: wikipedia. Starting with 1993 season, I just clicked the "next season button".)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_Penn_State_Nittany_Lions_football_team

So in 22 years, they were eligible for ranking 20 of them. They finished ranked in 13 of those 20. Of those 13, they finished Top 5 twice (1994 and 2005), and Top 10 6 times (including the 2 Top 5 finishes). 7 times Ranked 11-25. I'd say that they meet their qualifications for "occasionally" getting a "lightning in the bottle" season in the Top 5, but they are not very consistently ending in the 6-25 range, as they were ranked in just over half of the seasons when they actually were eligible to be ranked.

I think to qualify for "Tier 2" they need to be better.

Not only does the Big 10 do what it can for OSU. They specifically make favorable calls for OSU because it makes the PSU fan base angry. They also manipulate the schedules so PSU doesn't get a bye week when they would like.

Surprised this person still has a viable account there. Or don't they recognize sarcasm any better than they do pedophile-enabling?

So, since joining the conference that they were all 100% certain that they would absolutely dominate, they've finished unranked more often than in the top 10. Do I have that right?

not sure, but I do know they have managed to tie Northwestern for the number of B1G titles (outright or shared) with 3.......in 22 years.

Yep.

State Penn's overall record in conference is 112-70, for a .615 winning percentage. Here's how State Penn has fared against Big Ten teams since joining the conference:

The Big Two: 14-27 (.341 winning percentage)
The Next Tier: 28-25 (.528 winning percentage)
The Patsies: 70-18 (.795 winning percentage)

The Big Two is of course Ohio State (7-16 record, .304 winning percentage) and Michigan (7-11 record, .389 winning percentage).

The Next Tier consists of Michigan State, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nebraska, all of which have been solid programs since State Penn joined the B1G in 1993. State Penn's record against the Next Tier is skewed by their surprising 13-6 record (.684 winning percentage) against Sparty.

State Penn's record against the top half of the conference (Big Two + Next Tier) is 42-52, for a .447 winning percentage. Not exactly the domination that State Penn fans were expecting.

The Patsies are the rest of the conference, the teams that have sucked for decades. The State of Indiana has been particularly kind to State Penn, which has a record of 18-1 against Indiana (.947 winning percentage) and 13-2 against Purdue (.867 winning percentage).

I just realized that I may need to root for Penn State to beat Michigan this year.

Or... how awesome would it be to see Indiana beat Michigan?

I guess the best would be if November 28 was for the division championship, and we win 50-20.
