Penn State Cult (Joe Knew)

I agree that's probably what would have happened but I would have said the same thing about Paterno before it all came out that he didn't. Let's face it... most of us thought Paterno was one of the good guys last year. A little kooky but still one of the good guys.

Aside from that history of not being much of a disciplinarian and all. And let's not forget that there was HISTORY to this story that goes back over a decade. This "kooky" fuck knew about this shit for over 10 goddamn years.

Again, MOST of us were surprised to learn that.

My point was simply this: Those people are ALL gone now. There is no need to talk about kicking PSU out of the B1G for two reasons. 1. It makes no sense to punish people (the new coaching staff and the kids that play football there.) for things that they had no part in. 2. Because it just isn't going to happen.

At the end of the day, Paterno was told what happened--or at worst what might have happened--in that shower.

He never once tried to find out who that little boy was...get his story....and get him some god damned help. NEVER.

And that fucking school has the god damned nerve to paint a mural on their campus showing him with a fucking halo! Burn that entire place to the ground and salt the fucking earth!

i don't think that mural is "on campus" IIRC it is in "town". Semantics I know but the mural isn't sponsored or affiliated with the university. Just some cultist with a paint brush.

Exactly my point. Penn State has as much to do with that halo as Auburn would if I painted a picture of Cam Newton holding a fist full of cash on the side of my house.

Sure, and you also had a lot demanding that he be fired....which he was. The same thing happened over JT. He had his blind supporters, those who felt he should have been immediately fired and a diverse range of opinions between the two. In other words, the Ohio State community had an honest, heartfelt discussion/argument about those coaches and what should happen to them. Both of whom were fired in the end, proving that however popular and powerful a football coach might become at Ohio State, he doesn't drive the bus.

That in no way corresponds to the cult-like veneration of JoePed at PSU, his dominance of the university hierarchy up to the level of forcing out university vice presidents who tried to interfere in "his" program and walking out on a President who was trying to fire him in 2004.

Apples and Oranges.

Which in no way corresponds to how a group of believers would react to finding out their former DC was a pedophile and the current HC worked to hide the issue. Seems to me like a strong argument for cognitive dissonance
theory. The more difficult the reality, the stronger the inclination to deny it or hold on to previous convictions.

I don't think what's happened in HV has any universality in its application. I think it is a situation solely unique to Ped Aggy. For decades, they have held themselves up as soooo much better than the rest of college football. They've looked out from their insular little valley with the smug certainty that they represented all that was righteous in college football and the rest of the landscape was corrupt and without redemption.

For them to now be forced to reevaluate the individual responsible for all their holier than thou, self-righteous crap would be to admit that they really weren't any better than the rest of us all along. They--individually, collectively as a fanbase or as an institution--didn't have the strength of character to do that.

You see it today in the puzzlement by fans around the Big Ten over how they can still play the morally superior card after the last three months, yet play it they do....without a moment's introspection or hesitation.

I'm not necessarily for kicking them out of the Big Ten. They have, however, shown themselves to be a very unique and odd institution that really doesn't fit in. Texas A&M is about as close as I can come, but even they are more bizarre and amusing than dangerous and dysfunctional.

Recruiting report card: Grading how new coaching hires fared

...
Ohio State's Urban Meyer: A+.
Meyer has been nothing short of exceptional during his two-month tenure in Columbus, wooing high school prospects and infuriating Big Ten rivals. Since Meyer's Nov. 28 introduction, the Buckeyes landed 10 recruits (nine ranked four-stars or better), and turned an area of weakness into an area of strength. In 2011, the Buckeyes averaged just 1.77 sacks per game, 72nd nationally. In 2012, blue-chip defensive linemen Noah Spence, Adolphus Washington, Se'Von Pittman and Tommy Schutt will enter the fold. Expect a rapid turnaround.
Penn State's Bill O'Brien: F. To be fair, this is more a reflection of the program's shortcomings than O'Brien's. But landing 19 recruits, only two with a four-star rating, leaves a lot to be desired, particularly considering the heralded hauls by Ohio State and Michigan. West Roxbury, Mass., teammates Camren Williams and Armani Reeves were formerly committed to the Nittany Lions, but flipped to the Buckeyes before Signing Day. Their decisions cap a season Happy Valley would soon like to forget.

Cont'd ...

Arizona's Rich Rodriguez: D.
Despite being hired Nov. 22 (earlier than every other coach on this list), Rodriguez wasn't able to sign even one four- or five-star recruit to Tucson. And he missed on some big names. Fuller -- a seemingly perfect candidate to serve as RichRod's West Coast Denard Robinson -- spurned the Wildcats in favor of dark horse UCLA. That's especially brutal given the Bruins already had T.J. Millweard, a three-star pro-style quarterback out of Fort Worth, in their class.

Rope not held.

:psu:Just reported on the 3 oclock radio news. J. Sandusky has reportedly been standing out in his yard and spying on local school children regularily. Law enforcement wants his house arrest condition to now include actually staying in the house.:shake:
