Former Titans punter A.J. Trapasso, now a Jet, beat Bills safety Bryan Scott across the goal line for Tennessee's first touchdown of the game during the first quarter of the 2009 Hall of Fame Game in August. The Jets have claimed punter A.J. Trapasso, tight end Matthew Mulligan, and fullback Jason Davis off waivers, according to a person with knowledge of the moves.

Trapasso, a rookie with the Titans, is best known for bouncing a punt off the Cowboys' $40 million scoreboard. He also scored a touchdown against the Bills during the Hall of Fame game last month on a fake punt. His arrival means that Reggie Hodges, as expected, is history. Mulligan and Davis fill needs at their respective positions. The addition of the three players and QB Kevin O'Connell means the Jets must release four players.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers sign P A.J. Trapasso to practice squad

The Bucs filled their last spot on the practice squad by signing former Titans punter A.J. Trapasso.

You might remember Trapasso. He scored a touchdown in the Hall of Fame game for the Titans on a fake punt, fake end-around.

Then he created a stir by hitting the new video scoreboard in the Cowboys new stadium.

The Bucs plan to go with P Dirk Johnson against the Cowboys. But GM Mark Dominik says Trapasso will get some looks in practice next week.

"You've got to bring guys in here for constant competition,'' Morris said. "You don't want anybody to get comfortable. We've got Dirk in here, he's our punter. We've got Trapasso in here to see what he can do. We want to see his leg in live action, we want to see his leg out here on our grass, see what it looks like in Florida...see him hold, see him do all the things punters do. You've got to make decisions based on what you believe, as far as how long you can keep him and all that kind of stuff.''

Titans May Look For Punter With Hentrich Hurt
By Jonathan Hutton September 20, 2009

Titans Craig Hentrich left Sunday's game against Houston in the third quarter with a left calf strain and did not return, which has left management considering free agent options as Week 3 begins.

Official word on how much time, if any, Hentrich could miss was not given following the Titans 34-31 home loss, however the veteran walked gingerly on the sideline while kicker Rob Bironas filled in on punting duties for the rest of the game.

Bironas punted only once, booting a ball 40-yards that rolled dead at the 32, but the team would look to bring in a free agent if Hentrich is scheduled to miss any time. Hentrich was in a lot of pain in the locker room following the game and needed Bironas' help in order to get dressed.

The injury could open the door for A.J. Trapasso, the former Ohio State Buckeye who spent time this preseason on the roster. Trapasso, who special teams coach Alan Lowry was very pleased with following training camp, was released earlier this month in favor of Hentrich and has since spent time with both the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, however he is currently on the open market.

Wilson: Titans try out four punters
With Hentrich injured, Titans looking for help
Aaron Wilson
September 22, 2009

With Craig Hentrich dealing with a calf injury that could sideline him indefinitely, the Tennessee Titans auditioned four potential replacements today.

In addition to A.J. Trapasso and Glenn Pakulak, the Titans also tried out former New York Jets punter Reggie Hodges and Ricky Schmitt.

Although Hodges frustrated Jets coach Rex Ryan with his inconsistency and was cut by New York, Hodges has experience punting at the Jets' stadium.
