OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

i couldn't care less if offutt's ranking takes a jump. all i know is that this kid is much better than his rankings imply. i cannot stress that enough. he is a well-rounded player who gives his all on both ends of the court. he is a lock-down defender and excellent penetrator. his ball-handling skills are top notch, and he sees the whole court very well. offutt has a college-ready body right now, and the acl injury appears to be well behind him (he can jump and his first step is lightning fast).

the only major thing that i see that he needs to work on is his perimeter shot. he has good form. he just needs to work on it more. if he does become more proficient from the outside, he'll become a perfect 2-guard in matta two guard system.

i'll put it this way: if matta doesn't pick up a point guard for the '09 class, i will not be worried one bit. don't be surprised if offutt plays either the 1 or the 2 in the big league someday. he will be that good.

So right now, who have we recruited? Kosta, Turner, who else. I know we have BJ Muellins for next year, and Deshaun Thomas is 2010.

I like the scout site for a good list of the commitments. You can also click on "prospects" to see who Ohio State is recruiting.

For 2007 go to: Scout.com: Men's Basketball Recruiting

For 2008 go to: Scout.com: Men's Basketball Recruiting

For 2009 go to: (nobody yet) Scout.com: Men's Basketball Recruiting

For 2010 go to: Scout.com: Men's Basketball Recruiting

Then you can click on the players name and see a photo and a little bio.

Note: Thomas has decommited.

interesting that 20 of the top 40 Class of 2009 mention OSU as "In The Mix"

Makes you wonder if Matta can recruit !?!

Interesting about three different recruits and one from no where

Observation:
Between St. Edward's 6-7 Delvon Roe, Massillon Perry's 6-11 Kenny Frease and Ohio State recruit Anthony Crater, a 5-11 point guard, it would seem Xavier, which landed Frease, landed the best recruit of the three.
He took up plenty of space on the court, scored deftly around the rim and rebounded solidly.
Crater has superior ballhandling skills and quickness, but his shot is sporadic. Athletically, Roe was equal to any power forward in the gym.
But for hunker down Michigan State, he will have to bulk up that solid frame significantly to be an impact freshman.

High riser:
The one player who seemed to see his stock rise with every outing was 6-11 junior John Riek out of New York. Don't waste your time looking him up on the Internet recruiting sites; unless something has been posted in the last 24 hours, nothing is there.
But when he does make an appearance, look for him to rank among the top five juniors in the nation. Riek is a transfer from Sudan who arrived in the U.S. in January. He is playing at New York's Our Savior New American along with another overseas prospect, 6-11 Akol Teeng. Riek, who is still learning the game, was the best big man at the camp capable of dominating both offensively and defensively.

ESPN - Reebok Summer Championships and Adidas Super 64 Notebook - Insider

Buford's matchup with Brandon Jennings is described as "McDonaldesque", as he and Jennings went at eachother in the best matchup of the camp.

Renardo Sidney is described as lacking a sense of urgency and lacking a viable back to the basket game at this point. Roe was clearly the better player when they matched up.

Brandon Knigt is described as the best PG.

The writer says it wouldn't surprise him if BJ Mullens ends up the best player in the 08 class. Described as having a remarkable frame, athleticism, and shooting touch. Kosta part deux maybe?

I've only seen like 5 total minutes of Mullens in action(video is hard to come by for him and for Buford), but it sounds like he could be an Ilgauskas type center, before the multiple ankle surgeries. Good shooter out to 18 feet. An array of post moves. Adequate defense(I've never really heard much about Mullens defensively, though I read he's a good rebounder), but nothing spectacular.

that would be amazing. I remember Ilgy being so athletic and fast for a bigman before, those ankle problems . Kinda reminded me of a 7'3 kevin garnett back then.
