OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

I have been dealing with computer problems, and really havent been able to fathom what has really happened here...

First off let me say that Matta is just a relentless recruiter, but I also think lots of credit needs to go to the whole staff, Groce is a great recruiter as well...

We have pulled in another kid that will be a top 5 guy along with Sullinger, as that bucknuts article states, hoopscoop has Sullinger and Thomas as the 2 and 3 players in the country...That is just incredible, at this point it is not out of the question for Sullinger to grow to be 6'11'' and Thomas to about 6'8'' Pair them a pg like Crater, wings like Diebler, Buford, Turner, Offut, Wallace, then have guys like Babbit, Lauderdale, maybe Mullens and we might as well be starting a NBA franchise right here in Columbus...

It is incredible, and I realize that some of these kids like KK, Mullens, Buford, Thomas, Sullinger are kids that are going to only give you 1 or 2 years, but with classes like this past one with guys that will give you 3 or 4 years, and same with 08, if we can continue to mix classes like that we are going to be sitting in the top 10 in the country every year, winning big ten championships and hopefully pulling in NC's...

We are in the class with the Dooks, UNCs, and UKs of the college basketball world, and I understand they are going to get their fair share of players as well, but when you are pulling the number 1 and 2 player in the country it will get hard to compete with that...Now we just need to continue to see Matta develop as a game coach and mold these teams as well as he has his last 2...

It is just totally incredible how Matta has turned this program back around, and the days of the schott not filling up and sounding very quiet are going to seem like a distant past in a couple years....

Wow, I almost wish I could fast-forward a few seasons. As has been said before, its a good time to be a Buckeye.

I feel your anticipation. But, I'm looking forward to the ride getting there just as well.

I agree, we have guys before them that are going to be putting up championships before they get here...

I think this next season will be our toughest to pull in the big ten championship, after that I am not sure if it is going to be fair for the other teams...

Matta set the standard for Ohio State in recruiting three + years ago when he lured Mullens to an early verbal and then Cook, Conley and Oden decided on Ohio State. How do you follow that up? There is no way to top that class right? Wrong.......go out and get Kosta Koufos and another top five class with Diebler, Turner and company. Not satisfied? Who needs to sleep.....I guess Matta and staff doesn't.....they don't sit back and take it easy.....they go out and get Buford, Babbitt, Crater along with Mullens for another top 5 class.......class of 09? We have feelers out...no rush. Heck, lets start on the class of 2010.....Sullinger come on down......hell lets go after Thomas who they have been recruiting since the 8th grade......first to offer......Thomas, Sullinger and possibly Wright will give them the #1 class in 2010 if Wright decides to pull the trigger.

Matta promised to wake up a sleeping giant and he has kept his promise....enjoy the ride.

Sorry, I have been having computer problems and had been unable to keep up:wink2:

As most of you know, I love Ohio State basketball more than football. Having said that, a lot of how many championships we will win in the coming years is going to depend on how long these guys stay. It is extremely difficult for freshmen to come in and take us to the promised land right away. It was even difficult this year to a certain extent.

If you guys want so funny read go over to the Indiana board on Scout because one guy wants to know what our "luxury tax" is going to be:biggrin:

I just wanted to add that I think we will only give, or have, one scholarship to give in 09 and so those guys who have been offered for 09 better get on the train before it leaves the station.

Also, I think the general public
, people who do not follow basketball recruiting very closely,
does not have any idea what Matta is doing with the Ohio State basketball program for the future. They only see what we might have next year but not down the road. They will be very surprised:biggrin:

I just hope we can get some guys to start stickin around for a few years. It was kind of disappointing to see three freshman bolt for the NBA (although one can easily understand why they did).

Do you mean Knight (Brendon) from Florida? Or is there a Wright that I'm not aware of?

not going to happen. Matta knows how college BB has changed to the NBA minor league. If any agent contacts a player or the parents, its just up in the air then. Think about Cook and thats just the beginning.. ITS all about money. Look how many 1st round picks will be seniors in the NBA draft, maybe, 2 or 3 and this is only the first year of mandatory one year of college.

My uncle is a president of a top 500 company and if he told me I had a job right after high school not OSU/college. I would have been happy in a second.

It's probably very true regarding the business world. You really only learned the basics in college and to a certain extent how to interact with people. You really don't learn how to work or your job until you really have one.

Not trying to speak for Junkie because I know he can hold more than his own but I think he was talking about Knight from Florida. That is a guy who is ranked #1 currently in the 2010 class. I believe he is the son of Brevin. Look at the individual knight thread.
