OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions
Yeah, I noticed that too. Didn't hurt my gain of perspective though.
Well that is good, but UNC will be up there in the final rankings of the 08' class...They have a chance at Greg Monroe who is the #1 player in the country and a very very good shot at Jrue Holiday who is ranked #2...

Heck they have a shot at Tyreke Evans, but they arent recruiting him that hard b/c they have a guy they are recruiting harder...

No Way - Butler has it...

Anyone think Thad picks up a Point guard for this year? JUCO?

With Conley Gone, Butler is really good, he will play 95% of the time and Peters can PG from there(Yes, Titus and Peters will be back and they will play). It is my opinion that this will give a reason to keep the walk ons and save a scholarship or two. Or they could go with BBall smart Diebler for that 5%.

Diebler-He can do it all. He can steal, block, pass, dribble, and most of all shoot.

My predict-starting line up in order next year-C=(1)Terwilliger(2)Madsen(3)Lauderdale, PF=(1)Koufos(2)Hunter(3)Wallace, SF=(1)Lighty(2)Turner(3)Wallace, SG=(1)Diebler(2)Wallace(3)Titus PG=(1)Butler(2)Peters(3)Diebler

At Center, you have to go with EXP. Terwilliger is the man. Madsen is a great big man backuup and the grooming of Dallas Lauderdale will begin.

Koufos is a definite starter. Big, agile, agressive, and a big screen option that can roll off and shoot the 3 or the post. Hunter will serve the same role again, Matta buying minutes with a big wing span blocker. Wallace here when they go run and gun.

I think Wallace will be the offense changing factor. PF for the speed, size and strength inside, SF for his finishing abilities later in the game, and his decent ball handling and jumper as a SG.

Lighty again will have more play time down the stretch when his defensive brilliance takes command. He will alternate in the first half with the smooth and stealthy Turner.

And to run the show, Butler, He was always a starter and a leader. He can dribble, pass, and shoot the 3. Conley was a nice gift to us for the year but back to our bread and Butler.

It would sure be nice to have a freshman point guard come in next year and learn the system for a season before Butler leaves. (True freshman PGs rarely are able to lead a team like Conley) I'm sure that won't happen though this year. So my question is, are we in on any PGs for the '08 class still? Or for the recruiting gurus out there, are there any great ones out there still who haven't committed?

.

Evan Turner will be able to play some point guard. He will not be as good as Butler but I think he would be a step above a guy like Titus or Peters. It is possible that Diebler could play some PG but Turner is better suited to play that role.

Hunter will get some playing time at the center position along with Twig and Madsen.

KK will probably play offense at the 4 position and play quite a bit of defense at the 5.

Lightly will get the bulk of playing time at the 3 position. You have Wallace very overrated with regards to his skills for the 3 or 2 position as a freshman. He probably will play some 3 but it will be down the road.

I think Lightly, Diebler, and Turner will get the bulk of the playing time at the 2/3 position.

Of course, all of the assumptions above are based on the fact that both Cook and Conley leave early.

Wasn't sure where else to ask this question:

Anyone know anything about a kid who recently (this year or last) transferred to Upper Sandusky? Supposedly he is either a freshman or a sophmore and his father is being mentioned as the next head coach at US after Diebler's father steps down. I was in Monnet on Friday talking to some big US basketball fans and they were telling me about this kid that they think could be as good as Diebler and has already been scouted by Thad and his staff.

If you are going with Scout or Rivals, they have underrated Wallace in the 3 position. He may be the 23 ranked SF but in my book he is much higher.

He will showcase that he is in the running with Lighty and Turner on offense both of which offer finesse and skill in the 3 position which is different than what Wallace offers. Wallace is the power line up but he can shoot the nice jumper off the dribble or pass from a screen but what he adds is the 10 second shot clock and he power to the hoop when the pressure is up with a short shot clock.

Of course all of this is a question mark until they get on the court together which he did play some with the King James posse. It will be interesting.

I am not basing this on Scout or Rival ratings. Have you seen Wallace play? Everything that I have read about him indicates that he does not have the basketball skills right now to play the 2/3 position at Ohio State.

From what I've seen from Wallace, he'll play a hybrid 3/4, depending on the opposing line up and what Matta wants to do. He has the skill to play the three. He's also strong enough and tall enough to play the four. He's quick and talented enough to drive by fours guarding him on offense or get his shot off over them, and he's so big that he could abuse most opposing threes on offense.

Wallace should be a player as long as he's willing to work hard enough to further develop his face up game and fundamentals.

Is anyone hearing what Matta's recruiting emphasis is right now? Clearly he's on the road looking for something - a JUCO point to serve as a placeholder, perhaps?

My biggest concern is the lack of any continuity between Jamar Butler leaving (and he'll be just fine at the point next year) and Noopy Crater coming in as a frosh.
