OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

I'd actually like to see us just use Turner and maybe Diebler(Personally, from seeing video on Turner and seeing Diebler in person, I think Turner is more capable of handling PG duties).

I don't think a JUCO point is necessary. I'd be wary of juco points anyways, just because you want your PG to be a floor general that won't make mistakes. I'm not sure we'd even be able to find a quality Juco PG.

I think we'll be fine with Turner/Diebler bringing the ball up for maybe 5-10 minutes per game.

A JUCO might just be good b/c a JUCO is not going to hurt us in terms of schollie and will be gone after the 08' class...

It would just be to steal minutes from Butler and anything else would just be bonous...Kinda like what Hunter brought this year...He backed up Harris this year, but was good enough to get more minutes and improved drastically by the end of the season...

There is not enough time to make an impact on a recruit at this stage.....if you want to look at the positive side, Matta and staff must feel comfortable with Butler at PG. I am comfortable with it and I think he will have a better year next year. I feel like he is better with the ball in his hands. The question is who will man the point when he needs a rest??? It should be interesting.

Butler and maybe Lighty? have to be strong at guard next year or things start falling apart.
We all hope that Butler is the man next year.

it looks like matta is not finished recruiting for 07.

Even teams not previously involved with Patterson are comically attempting to step in at the 11th hour. His final list has stayed the same for months: Florida, Kentucky, Duke, West Virginia, Virginia, Wake Forest. Yet, Ohio State's Thad Matta called Kosta Koufos, the 7-foot Buckeye commitment and one of Patterson's teammates in the Jordan game, and asked him if he would pass the phone over to the high-school free agent, who just might be able to fill one of the scholarship vacancies presented by the possible departure of Mike Conley Jr. and Daequan Cook.

Said Patterson: "[Kosta] was like, 'Pat, my coach wants to talk to you.' I started laughing, but he was like, 'For real, he wants to talk to you.' ... [Matta] said, 'We've got people leaving at Ohio State; I'm just wondering if you're open enough for us to come in and recruit you.' I said, 'No thank you, and I wish you best of luck.'"

Players who might leave after next year's season?
Koufas
Turner
Buford
Deibler

Trying to get this type of discussion on the appropriate thread. :)

If any of the three guys go after to 2008 season, Buford will still be in high school, we might take a big hit with regards to our APR unless Matta can make KK stay in school Spring quarter. KK is the only guy I can see of the 3 freshmen possibly going early but even he will have to get much stronger.

Yep, I agree on KK, but he has the potential with his 7'1 frame and his ability to shoot the ball from deep that the NBA likes, but I think he will have growing pains early in the season getting used to some of the quicker guys that are going to be guarding him and also the pounding he will take on the inside during the big ten...

i dont see any guys leaving early. kk will struggle in defending the five. hes a player, but players get bigger, stronger and quicker at the next level. kof has great hands but could use some serious time pumping up. not saying he cant be drafted, i would project at this point it would be more beneficial for him to hang around and polish up his game inside 7 feet. his strength in my view isnt the 3ball like you guys seem to go crazy about, its his 8 to 12 foot game. everyone compares him to dirk. i see a young duncan. he couldnt bang down low but at 10 feet he was lethal. you knew he could hit that shot all day all night if he had half a look, if you came out to aggressive then hill put the ball on the floor and kill you attacking the rim. how effective will this be without a five and guys sloughing off? i think it depends if the three ball is falling. i look for kof to get the ball on the short wing and teams to "black" him.

though, i thought teams would 'black' conley all year and it wasnt till this week i found out why...

Plz put this into English...:tongue2:

I agree about him being in the Duncan mode, but I am thinking more Paul Gasol...

The reason his ability to shoot the 3 is so great is that he will be able to get it off over anyone, won't need a huge crease to get it off, also he will be able to play great from the high post against zone...

I also agree that he will struggle to guard the 5 and needs to bulk up...

As for all your sloughing and blacking you are going to have to do some explain'...
