OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Who from the '07 recruiting class will be starting/seeing lots of playing time last year? I've heard Kosta could start next year, but who else in the class is gonna be seeing time?

See the Evan Turner thread. He is very good and probably could play 3 positions. Diebler also will probably see some time but it probably will be situational. I do not think Wallace and Lauderdale will see much action but you might want to review their threads.

Part of the issue is that what we are losing and what we are gaining are not the same things. Presuming that Cook goes, along with Oden and graduating seniors Harris and Lewis, we're losing guys who shoot and penetrate, along with a dominant center, and guys who play a lot of minutes.

I don't see where their exact replacements are in this class. Koufos is a completely unique talent, and I think that he finds a starting spot. Many seem to think that Lauderdale isn't ready, which means center by committee next year between Hunter, Twigs and Madsen.

Lighty is clearly stepping up to be a starter. Everyone is talking about his confidence, and it certainly appears that he's passed Cook, which I find mildly shocking. Lighty isn't a huge outside threat right now, which puts the pressure on to Butler and Conley.

Taking a wild stab at this, here's what I see -- starting guards are Conley and Butler, with Diebler being the next guard off of the bench. Forwards are Lighty and Koufos, with Hunter in the pivot. Madsen and Twigs are the big men coming off of the bench first. Behind them sit Lauderdale and Turner.

I am hoping that Diebler proves to be the major surprise in this class. His video looks great, and we are going to need better three point shooting next year.

I watched a game of his on TV tonight, and he really has a pretty shot. It was like no matter where he took a shot from if the shot didnt go down (which lots did obviously), it was at least a near miss. I'm suprised people really think Cook is going to leave. I'm hoping that the guys from this year's team look at what Florida did last year, and all decided to return to play again next year to win a national title. If they all were to return, we would have to be the hands down preseason favorite.

While I agree with much of what you have said, I am long with other posters strongly disagree with you regarding Turner. You really should read his thread or at least some of it. He needs to get a little bit stronger but otherwise he can play 3 different positions and play them well. He was rated arguably as the #3 player in Illinois which says quite a bit about him right there.

Also, I have seen Diebler played a few times and he really has no range when it comes to shooting from the outside. The only question I have regarding him is whether he can catch and shoot. I know that he can shoot off the dribble without any problem.

I agree with all of this...

Also it seems that what gets you on the court as a freshmen under Thad Matta has been the ability to play defense, and Turner has that ability.

I don't see Cook leaving. As I said before, considering the way he wrapped up the season, I could see him going in the second round or not at all if he does enter the draft. I think he has such incredible upside, however, that he could be a lottery pick if he waits a year or two. IMO at this point, he'd have to be listening to some really bad advice if he chose to enter the draft.

IMO Cook's decision doesnt have a whole lot to do with how well he has performed or lack of performance...

And that advice you are talking about is not coming from the right people IMO...

That is what I have thought all-season unfortunately for DQ

Lucky to be a Buckeye

I was starting to feel a little sad about the possibility of Conley and Oden leaving (and Cook?), and I was curious about D. Roe, so I ventured into the Carolina message boards... just have to say, I've gained a lot of perspective. Here I was feeling sad about having runner-up teams in MBB and FB (has that ever happened?), and this is the best its ever been to be a Buckeye fan BY FAR in my lifetime...

...anyways Carolina is shocked because we have our amazing 2008 class completed* (* in case Roe or Pryor want on board) and they DO NOT HAVE ONE COMMIT!

I love it. I'm officially out of my post-NCAA depression and on to 2007-08. I hope our boys do stay, but I can't wait to see the 2007s on the court (and I can't wait to see Saine and Small on the field at the same time).

UNC's 08 class will be just fine...They are being listed by 7 kids in the top 10 on Scout's top 100...
