OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

Next year's squad with Oden and Cook would have to be considered to be a favorite to reach the final four......If they both leave, we will still be a top 10 team with a realistic shot at going deep in the tourney. I am not that concerned about our front line, we will have the depth next year even without Oden. Enjoy the ride fellas

On the recruiting front.......I am hearing that Babbitt was very impressed by his visit and we have a very good shot at landing this national prospect. Roe seems like he will not likely make a decision until next summer at the earliest and that may be to late to get a spot in the 08 class at Ohio State, I think we are behind several schools for Roe at this point. Same goes with Gates who may have cooled on Ohio State.

If anyone gets a chance to see Buford play, take advantage. In my mind he is the #1 player in Ohio in the 2008 class. What a player.

Projected '08-'09 team

It's a bit too early to look ahead, but there's a buzz going on about just how good the '08-'09 team could be if the NBA had a 3 year rule like the NFL does. I've heard several analyst say that they think it has the chance to be the greatest college basketball team ever, if everyone stays. With three potential five star 7 footers in the starting lineup, who can blaim 'em?

Projected lineup: (Others five-star players are still considering)

C-Greg Oden-Ranked #1 in his classhttp://ohiostate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=22036
PF-Kosta Koufos- Ranked #12 in his class(Compared to Dirk Nowitzki) http://ohiostate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?pr_key=42185&Sport=2
SF-BJ Mullens- Ranked #3 in his class (Compared to Kevin Garnett) http://ohiostate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=33826
SG-Daequan Cook- Ranked #13 in his class
PG-Mike Connely- Ranked #18 in his class http://ohiostate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=22352
Reserves-
SG-Anthony Carter- Ranked #24 in his class http://ohiostate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=46766
4 star players...
SF-Evan Turner-Ranked #45 in his class http://ohiostate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=44613
SG-John Diebler- Ohio basketball leader for most points in H.S. career http://ohiostate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=38700
SG-David Lighty- Ranked #36 in his class. (Has not lived up to his ranking so far this year) http://ohiostate.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=2&pr_key=24390
PF-Othello Hunter

You'll find some similar discussions in this thread:
OFFICIAL BBALL RECRUITING PROJECTIONS/GENERAL DISCUSSIONS

A few thoughts:

- Madsen, Offutt, & Buford are missing... and Babbitt may hop onboard soon. So we can't keep everyone on that list
- I don't see the Garnett-Mullens comparisons or SF projection.

- From a star-standpoint (obviously Oden is worth more than 5), our projected squad (w/o Oden, Cook) is pretty flithy... (1-2 more 5-stars than yours)

08-09 Roster (w/ 2 guesses):

I thought of this after reading this thread that if guys stayed 4 years the level of talent that would be in college basketball, but can anyone having LBJ as a senior and Oden as a frosh.

Hell it wouldnt matter if we signed up a couple of guys from this board we would still win...

So LBJ would have been national player of the year and TSmith the Heisman winner? Thats just being greedy.

Hindsight

In watchinga couple of the MSU games I have often wondered how it would have played out if Morgan would have come to Ohio State. If he had, I guess we would not have Hunter and, believe me, I love Othello. However with Morgan, it would have given us a true PF and he would have been here for 4 years but if he had come here I wonder if we would have gotten the same recruits that we are getting four 2007 and possibly the PF four 2008.

Once again I want to reiterate how much I love Hunter but sometimes it is just fun to speculate.

True PF? I guess I don't think of Raymar as a true PF. I think Hunter is more of a true PF than Morgan is. Raymar is more of a 3/4. Babbitt (assuming we land him) will be a great compliment to a guy like Hunter at the 4...a scorer to go with a guy who can bang and board...with guys like Turner, Wallace and Lighty manning the 3.

i agree with wad, i see raymar as a tweener. matta is showing that hes going to like bigger wings. who knows how it would turn out, though likely id take a 6 7 wing than a tweener who is an inch taller...

I have no inside knowledge at all; however, I will be shocked if Raymar says in school for 4 years.
