OSU Men's Basketball Recruiting/Projections/General Discussions

I am trying to keep this out of theindividual player's thread. My question is why would Matta offer Thomas, out of Indiana, but not Sullinger. Is Thomas that much better of a player? Also, how good is Kellogg? I have heard good things about him.

Thomas could possibly be the #1 ranked player in the 2010 class, he is that good. An early offer is not a suprise. The offer to Thomas does not effect Sullinger. I can't comment on their reasons for offering Thomas first, but maybe he is higher on the board than Sullinger. Do I think they are done offering? No. The staff may feel they have a good shot at Sullinger being in their backyard and having JJ play here. They may have felt they need to get in on Thomas early. Kellogg is still developing and most likely will continue to be evaluated by Ohio State, he is a good player who has the potential to be a high major prospect.

Looking through this forum it seems like one of Roe, Gates, or Babbit will hopefully finish off the '08 class. Does anyone have thoughts on how they compare to each other and how they would fit on this team? Matta's style has always been centered on the perimeter, seems like once Oden decides to take the bounty waiting for him Matta would revert back to this style. Does this seem to hold true with these recruits, or are we going after bigger bodies to keep the inside-out game we have with Oden?

Also, does Conley having a terrific freshman year mean we may need to look for another PG to bring in besides Crater?

Am I right in thinking that Conley, Lighty, Madsen would all be seniors in 09 so that would open up 3 spots...This is if all these guys stay, also a chance of a guy like Kosta leaving early or anyone else on the roster...

That gives us 3-4 so guys we could bring in unless a guy like Conley goes early and they fill the spot in 09 class which there is a very very high possibility of that happening...

Either way we should be able to land at least 3 guys and an offer to a guy like Thomas who could easily be the #1 player is a great offer...

THen you have guys like Kellog and Sullinger that could fight for the other 2 spots...

With us brining in Mullens in 08 and Crater and Offut the need for a C or PG isnt going to be that high in 10' especially if we can bring Van Tresse in 09'.

Check this thread and those 3 guys threads...All of me/Junkie/Wad and more have given our opinions on them and who we think we land...

As for needing another pg Offut is a 1/2 combo so you could see a backcourt of a 1, 1/2 combo with Crater and Offut much like you see this year with Conley and Butler...

I think if we get Van in 2009, which I doubt and I know I am in the minority on that, I think we could be looking at another pg in 2010. I do think we will go after another 3/4 player in 2009
Even if we do not get Van.
It will be someone else.
We will not need another 5 in 2010 because we will still have DL along with Mullens.

Do I smell someone's football recruiting pessimism spilling over to the basketball forum? Hey, JT may not be able to close OOS kids, but Thad can close 'em every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
