No, this isn't an older post we accidentally published: the Eagles have, on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, hired Chip Kelly away from Oregon, CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman confirms.

An announcement from the team is expected soon on the stunning news that was first reported by Chris Mortensen of ESPN.

Kelly flirted with Philadelphia earlier in the offseason, but ultimately turned down multiple NFL advances in order to return to Oregon. Or so we thought?

It's absolutely stunning news to see Kelly flip-flop like this and it will raise plenty of speculation about the way the NCAA views Oregon's short-term future with respect to sanctions as well as whether or not Kelly can be trusted to stick to a decision in the NFL.

There will also be an interesting debate about whether or not Kelly was given enough personnel power.

I guess the big question is has a contract been signed yet. I know back when he was interviewing with the Browns supposedly the attorneys were to get together that evening.

I don't know how much money Laurie threw at him because the Browns were supposedly offering him around $8 million and he probably could have gotten more. They also were giving him a line of control over the football operations. I just wonder what the Eagles gave him for him to become their coach.

Pac 12 football just took a big step backwards.
I don't know about that. Stanford has one of the best young coaches in the game and they aren't going anywhere. USC will come back after they fire their jackwagon of a coach and it's not like Oregon will totally fall off. Washington is rising under Sark, heck even Zona is more respectable than they have been (that's hard to admit though)... UCLA made a good hire in Mora...the conference is more balanced than it has been in a long time even without Kelly.
