Alright...

How about this.

Let's say the NCAA is gonna drop some "Ohio State" level penalites on Oregon. Or that minus the bowl ban.

Still a pain, and all and might scare off some candidates.

But, Oregon is a bit of a touchy reputation built team where you might have trouble if you lose for 2 or 3 years. You're gonna need a guy that knows a thing or two about rallying the troops in the face of adversity.

Stay with me...

I think Bacon O'Buttbits is the perfect fit here. He gets lesser NCAA penalties, the Pedsters continue their downwardspiral into the zombierabbitholematrix, Phil Knight gets to write a 10 million dollar buyout check, and we can all find out that working with Tom Brady doesn't make you an offensive genius.

Awesome. Chaos is opportunity. Puts Oregon players in flux, plus players from whatever school sends the next coach to Oregon.

Also, by sheer statistics, since the next coach at Oregon is unlikely to do as well, and since Oregon seems to be the offense that attracts "playmakers", that leaves them free and dangling for tOSU.

Their athletic director stated that the OC would take over Kelly's position if he took an NFL job.

If Mark Helfrich gets the job, I would expect a smooth transition. Being the current OC he's probably popular with the players.

Welcome, Mark Helfrich

Oregon will be just fine

Congratulations, Mark Helfrich. You just got handed the keys to the Ferrari, according to reports. Now make it run faster, better and with more power.

I know they said they would promote Helf, but I'm still shocked they didn't at least pitch Petersen. Smooth transition to be sure but certainly not a big-name hire. Oregon always promotes from within though, so I'm not surprised.

A very nice "chunk of change" there.

Oregon has its own pending case, having reached an impasse with the NCAA regarding the investigation of the Ducks' football program's relationship with Texas talent evaluator Willie Lyles.

Last year, it was clear the Ducks were pursuing summary disposition ? in effect, plea bargain with the NCAA.

The Ducks are now expected to appear before the NCAA's committee on infractions this spring.

Reports: 'Major' violations occurred

http://espn.go.com/college-football...e-major-violations-committed-football-program

Documents released by the University of Oregon show the school and the NCAA agree "major" violations were committed by the football program, both The Oregonian and Portland, Ore., television station KATU reported Monday.

The documents focus heavily on Will Lyles, who ran a recruiting and scouting service and has been widely reported to be at the center of the investigation, according to the reports. Most of the alleged violations cited occurred during the tenure of former Ducks coach Chip Kelly, who left Oregon in January to become the coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Both The Oregonian and KATU received the documents after filing a public records request.

"There were underlying major violations coupled with failure to monitor violations involving the head coach (2009 through 2011) and the athletics department (2008-2011)," NCAA enforcement staff wrote in the report, according to KATU.

However, the documents also state NCAA enforcement staff said they had "no finding of lack of institutional control and no finding of unethical conduct," key points when it comes time for punishment to be considered, KATU reported. Oregon is expected to appear before the NCAA's committee on infractions sometime this year.

The university gave a statement to The Oregonian on Monday night following the documents' release that read: "The review is ongoing until the NCAA Committee on Infractions issues its final report. The integrity of the process and our continued full cooperation with the NCAA prohibits us from publicly discussing the specifics of this matter."

Like it or not, if we want a BCS bowl we need the 8-3 ugly Ducklings to win at Oregon State next week. Could be worse, they could be 3-8 instead of 8-3.

[censored] 'em up, Ducks! :pissed:

No - we just need the rest of the conference to play good football. If BlueBalls and PSU can go undefeated until we play them, our conference will appear stouter than the Mountain West extension.
