I personally don't see what could have made Kelly change his mind aside from a change in the projected outlook of these hearings. Oregon have been caught not only paying a street agent for a recruit, but also essentially lying to the NCAA's face when they peddled that nonsense "recruiting guide" as what they had paid Lyles for.
Don't see how they would get off with less then what we got.

Hard to believe that Oregon wouldn't at least make a pitch to Chris Petersen...seems like a slam dunk hire to me and word is that the Oregon job is one of the few Petersen would jump at. Plus he is likely going to face some down years at BSU soon, so now might be the time to make the move if the sanctions aren't looking too harsh.

It's also not out of the realm of possibility that Oregon would just decide to try to make Kelly the fall guy in this or at the very least Kelly didn't like the way Oregon was going to present their arguement in regards to who is to blame for the infractions (we know Kelly likely IS to blame, but maybe he assumed Oregon would try to cover his rear more then they intend to).

I figure he'll get a comparable contract to what Seattle gave Petey Carroll, right? What was it, 5 years, $7M per - something like $35M total?
He's what, 50 years old? He's proven he can be successful in the college ranks. If he tries the NFL thing for 5 years and it works, he'll be 55 years old and have roughly $35M in his pocket. He'll be able to name his price and with a few obvious exceptions, he can name his employer, college or pro.
If he tries the NFL thing and it doesn't work, he'll still have roughly $35M in his pocket and can come back to college where he can more or less name his price and employer. What does he have to lose?
