I've been told that JB's tests have come back positive and charges are going to be dropped on Wednesday. I know most people already assumed this, but very reliable source within the program sent me a text. TIFWIW

I take it by "positive" you mean "good" and not "positive for drugs." :wink2:

Where I got my panties in a bunch was when people started talking about how it must have been some cop with a chip on his shoulder and that we should excuse our players b/c most college kids smoke weed, etc. Thus far, there is no reason to believe that the officer did anything more than his job.

When did anyone ever say they should be excused because most college kids smoke weed? In the hierarchy of bad things a college kid can do, possession of a bowl or rolling papers barely registers... which isn't to say it doesn't register at all. That's what I meant to convey. If they had been guilty, in the offseason, admonish them or make them run, but a suspension (as some inferred) would be over the top.

You're right that the law isn't a buffet. You don't get to pick and choose which laws you want to obey and expect not to get in trouble for the ones you violate. But, still, we do everyday. It's just that the laws most people ignore happen to be less serious laws... like, I don't know, smoking weed.

What I've always found entertaining is that, under the ORC, possession of a marijuana bowl is a 4th-degree misdemeanor, while possession of marijuana is a minor misdemeanor. (i.e. traffic ticket). Baffling distinction.

I too have always wondered why possesion of something you use to smoke the marijuana is more serious than the marijuana itself. I think our society has made marijuana as close to legal as possible.

Having said that and while I may or may not agree that smoking marijuana isn't that big of a deal, different people have different opinions of what a big deal is.

I personally don't think it's too much to ask of an 18-22 year old person to refrain from smoking weed when they are being given a free education and the opportunity to play the the Ohio State University. Yes, a lot of college kids smoke weed, but a lot of college kids aren't being given the same opportunity that our players are.

was that test ordered by OSU/football? I've never heard of a test after a misdemeanor charge. OSU wanttabecops must be busy watching the drivers on campus these days and not the thieves in the DORMS. In the 90's you could drive easy around campus and at night time you could get into any building for your own needs :)

If memory serves, the place they got stopped is CPD jurisdiction.

Well, even the state legislature agrees that weed isn't that big of a deal since it basically decriminalized its possession. However, this comes from the same lawmaking body that thinks rolling papers are more serious than the drug itself... so make of it what you will.

And I don't think its too much to ask the players not to use. Of course they shouldn't. I just don't think getting caught once is that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. Getting caught twice??? Well, there's the line I would draw.

By the sound of it they might have volunteered for the drug test. If they know they are clean it is in their interest to make sure everyone knows they are clean.

I bet the lawyer told them too do it for the charge gets dropped. Two young kids wouldn't have know too do that. Some lawyers know how to play the system, they have for me.

if you know that you don't have any drugs in your system and you are charged for a drug related crime you would have to be pretty dense not to think of that defense on your own
