OL Harry Miller (Official Thread)

Wow, that is some powerful stuff right there. Coming from someone who has gone through bouts of depression and anxiety in my past (not sad, actually diagnosed), I can't imagine throwing on being in the D1 spotlight at Ohio State and having to deal with everyone watching you. Hope Harry can stick around Columbus and keeps on trucking, such a smart kid with a lot to give to the world outside football.

Makes you think about all of the players who have just "sucked it up" and continued to play through their own depressions and mental illnesses. Hopefully Harry can be the guy who makes a breakthrough for some more guys. But what makes it that much harder for this generation of athletes(especially in college and younger) is the aspect of social media. You can no longer just turn off the TV, and ignore ignorance from fans. It's literally all around you, and they can contact you personally.

You really have to think that the experience with Kosta had an impact on what this program does for mental health and why Harry was comfortable enough coming to coach Day. People learn to put a certain face on around others to avoid the conversation. As a person battling himself after a TBI, it's easy for me to understand why he would want to keep it to himself but respects the hell out of him for opening up and getting people involved to help him through it all. Life isn't easy even for people who seem to have it by the balls.

Wow that’s very powerful. You can tell he’s got a huge heart and has been suffering through so much. Happy he’s doing better and able to speak out. He will save lives. Proud of the program for being so supportive and I hope we can find a way to keep him engaged. He would be a great mental health and community service ambassador. I’m equally saddened by fn internet trolls sending death threats to folks playing a game. Social media is a cesspool and ugly reflection of society. I shrug it off for what it is but it is devastating to many and worries me for my young kiddos growing up in this age. The world needs more voices to stand up. Harry, through his actions, is doing that. Proud of this buckeye.

It's guys like Harry that are shedding more light on mental health for athletes. It's hard enough going through all of that without being under the spotlight nonstop and having social media be what it is like you said. I remember when Hamby (I believe) was getting death threats for dropping a pass against Texas. I think I was around 12 years old and knew better. Shame that adults don't.

Either way, really hope Harry is around the program for years to come.

As someone who lost a parent to suicide, Listening to Coach Day and Harry speak to their own personal struggles is very powerful.
I am so happy that Ryan Day is our Head Coach and for the work he and his wife do. I'm thrilled that the School and Athletic Dept have put such a great support structure in place.
As for Harry, Bless you young man! Continue on your positive journey in life. Buckeye Nation has your back. I believe there is a new addition to the list of "gmen's All-Time Favorite Buckeyes".
