I can't possibly see how they say that about Ohio State, two NCAA investigations revealed nothing.

Well, they choose factors that make their case less severe (sound familiar?) and they point out the Myles Brand has commended their response (sound familiar?).

It would be nice if the NCAA would begin a transparent investigation of the Bush affair and clear the air on that one.

The NCAA doesn't do transparent investigations. This newest information about the Oklahoma investigation came to light because of an open records request. As I explained in the SC thread, this is why people believe that nothing has been investigate with SC.

I've highlighted some intersesting quotes from Quinn, the other Sooner who was kicked off the team the same time as Bomar. Quinn transferred to Montana, and is giving the amount he received to charity.

In the article, he later says that he meant players on teams all around the country, but that seems like tap-dancing to me, after the way he said "there's people on the team ...".

Oklahoma defends itself against football allegations

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) ? University President David Boren emerged from an NCAA Committee on Infractions hearing on Saturday believing Oklahoma got a "totally fair" opportunity to defend itself against allegations it failed to adequately monitor athletes' employment at a Norman car dealership.

Boren said most of the 4?-hour meeting was spent on the topic of a "failure to monitor" charge against the university, which has dismissed three players ? including starting quarterback Rhett Bomar ? from the football team for taking extra pay from the dealership.

"I would describe it as totally fair. We had every opportunity to present our case," Boren said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press following the hearing in Indianapolis.

In its written response to the NCAA allegations, Oklahoma said it strongly disagreed with the failure to monitor charge and claimed the rules violations would not have been uncovered if not for the university's "aggressive investigation."

Boren said Saturday that the NCAA restricted him from giving specifics about the meeting's contents.

Espn is saying forfit, not just vacated.

The Oklahoma football program must forfeit its wins from the 2005 season and will lose two scholarships for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 school years.

The penalties, announced Wednesday by the NCAA, stem from a case involving two players, including the Sooners' starting quarterback, who were kicked off the team for being paid for work they had not performed at a Norman car dealership.

The Sooners went 8-4 and beat Oregon in the Holiday Bowl to end the 2005 season. Records from that season involving quarterback Rhett Bomar and offensive lineman J.D. Quinn must be vacated, the NCAA said, and coach Bob Stoops' career record will be amended to reflect the forfeitures, dropping it from 86-19 in eight seasons to 78-27.

What do records do on vacation?

I read soonerfans earlier, and I know that they were expecting much less.

Even if only eight wins are switched to losses, for an elite team that really hurts the old all-time (or other era) win percentage, I imagine. . . (or hope? It may drop than one place?) Stoops' win percentage drops from about 82% to 74%. . .

NCAA is toothless in this matter. They don't have subpoena powers, and Bush has *cough*paid off*cough* the one witness that was essential to prove any wrongdoing.
