Oklahoma dismisses QB Bomar/NCAA probation

an Aggie friend of mine tells me two things this morning:

1. Somebody has already proposed that when OU comes to Kyle Field this year, everyone wear maroon t-shirts that say, "I am Aggiegrant06."

that would be hilarious.

2. OU is now back-pedaling and saying the investigation had been going on for a long time. this in response to "how could someone have posted this last January and you didn't know about it?"

that looks pretty tough. if they knew and were investigating why did it take so long to throw Bomar off the team?

or they can have the other side: we didn't know till a few days ago. then the question is "why didn't you know when this was posted in January?"

either way, OU is in a ton of trouble.

This sounds like it may get very, very bad for OU. Bomar and Quinn were found to be "clocked in" at Big Red Motors during times when they were actually at football practices. They, and allegedly two-dozen other OU players over the past four years, willfully accepted paychecks for work they didn't do. This isn't about $500 handshakes or comp'ed dinners and theater tickets, these are football players who were on payroll making up to $18,000 a year for jobs they did not have to attend -- over the course of four years the amounts approach half a million dollars, if not more, in total payouts to football players.

NCAA violations don't get much more egregious than this. After Big Red had already been investigated, and A&M fans openly talked about this violation for nine months, you have to wonder how harsh the penalty will be.

I keep hearing more and more grumbling from the few prominent UT alumni I know that this is going to go get quite a bit worse before it goes away...Its all just rumors but interesting.

Darn, I just hate to see you depressed like this. Just remember, HL, we're your buddies and we consider you to be an "almost Buckeye" lost in the wasteland of a God forsaken state by an accident of birth and mobility.

So, if you need crisis counseling to get through this, we're here for you, buddy! :slappy:

I am also very depressed by this news. OU is such a great school with great fans and a great coaching staff and athletic department, who would never do anything against NCAA regulations. Other than those 6 other times of course.

I really like it when they persuade kids to go Benedict Arnold on their home state. Now that this has happened, I am saddened at the possibility that fewer Texas kids will go north of the Red River to play football.

I'm guessing the numbers won't change, but they'll be competing with TCU and Rice for recruits, not UT or A&M.

The reading is off the scale.

Now, if only someone would expose that Ivoyd and Charlie are secret lovers, we could all share in the pain.

Actually, I think the horrific visual I just got from your post outweighs the positive effects of any future schadenfreude that could result from that being exposed. I oughta ding you . . .

Lloyd: "Is it rolling yet?"

Charley: "Oh yeah baby, it's rolling!"

Somehow the "Whose on First" skit came to mind ... not in a good way.:wink2:

BB I can't tell you how disappointed I am.

You have been through this for the past three years with OSU and here you go throwing facts around as though they were relevant. We have a team on the ropes. Let's pile on with rumors and innuendo until half their fan base logs off the Internet for good. Anything to help me release some of this anger.

I was just pointing out that they need to expand the scope of the investigation, rather than just concentrate on the one car dealership.

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Walk-on Jermaine Hardison has been dismissed from Oklahoma's football team after violating team rules, spokesman Kenny Mossman said Thursday night.

Mossman said Hardison, a 6-foot-3 junior from Midwest City High School, was not on scholarship. Mossman didn't elaborate on which rules were violated.

Hardison had never played in a game at Oklahoma. He was listed as a wide receiver on the Sooners' roster.
