During training camp, NFL players are rarely arrested, as players just have too much to do to have any time to get into trouble off the field.

But Vikings players had the day off Sunday, and quarterback Rhett Bomar took the time to get himself arrested.

Bomar was arrested early Sunday morning in Mankato, where the Vikings have camp, for third-degree drunken driving. According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Bomar was taken to Blue Earth County Jail early Sunday and was released by Sunday evening.

The 26-year-old Bomar, whom the Vikings acquired from the Giants’ practice squad in December, was a long shot to make the roster even before he was arrested. He’s fourth on the quarterback depth chart behind Donovan McNabb, Christian Ponder and Joe Webb.

Bomar was Oklahoma’s starting quarterback in 2005 but was kicked off the team in 2006 for violating NCAA rules. He transferred to Sam Houston State, finished his college career there, and was drafted by the Giants in the fifth round of the 2009 NFL draft.
