Oklahoma dismisses QB Bomar/NCAA probation

Reggie Bush's parents received a heck of a lot more than $18,000, and he did zero work. Do you see USC doing anything about that? Stoops took the high road here IMO.
Reggie Bush is no longer at SC, so there was no decision to be made by Carroll. That was for the NCAA and SC administrators to sort out in a drawn-out investigation.

I'm not commending SC at all, I just think it's a different example.

I believe Stoops/Tressel took the only road when kicking Bomar/Clarett off of the team.

Obviously I'm merely speculating. There may be other similar examples of improper gifts (and perhaps the final suspensions were not as severe)... hopefully those will be brought up for comparison.

The only explanation I can think of for such a quick, decisive and extreme punishment is that this is much bigger than what we know today. Some insiders at OU are indicating that this is about to snowball, taking out more players and staff along the way (not just with the football team)

I imagine OU is on a short leash...if they get to the dreaded "Lack of Institutional Control" status, then penalties will abound for then entire Athletic Department, which could set all their teams back for a decade or more.

It's the same dealership where Peterson got a Lexus, so it goes without saying that Stoops had to have dropped the edict on conduct and that dealership after the mess with Peterson blew over.

Would not suprise me. When a big time company is caught paying backup linemen you have to wonder where it ends.

Apparently the new owner is the big donor

That doesn't fit the info available. They say this has been going on for an extended period, and Bomar allegedly reported $18,000 income on his taxes. The new owners didn't take over until after April.

What would you have us do?

That sucks for them, I hate seeing this happen to teams but i really do not like Jokelahoma so its a little better than usuall, hopefully Rhett lands on his feet in D-1AA and still has a good career.
bomar will surely have to repay all of that money, which could be a tall order. His college football days may be over.

The one thing that might suck for me as a Horn if OU gets sanctions, the Big 12 will be relegated to Big East status ('Texas and the 11 dwarves' as I heard last year) unless a NU or Colorado starts dominating again. Tech and A&M are like Purdue and Mich State, respectively, capable of having good years and upsetting people but are definitely not capable of being the face of the conference.

Nah, I'd rather just see someone at USC publicly acknowledge all the problems the program has been having and publicly or privately tell Carroll to shape up or get out. And I'd like the NCAA to punish USC for the improper benefits that Jarrett and Bush received. Then I'd be happy.
What did ever happen with that stuff methomps?
