Oklahoma dismisses QB Bomar/NCAA probation

Sooners fans must be committing mass suicide!

Nahh, it seems more like Sooner genocide for the fans over there.

</TD><TD class=m vAlign=top align=left>DEATH PENALTY LOOMING <HR SIZE=1>This is deeper than they're leading us to believe. OU is in danger of becoming the next SMU. The OU Spin Control/Marketing Machine is in an uproar now. Insiders tell me they don't know what to do. Basketball, football, baseball problems galore! Hell, even Sherri Coale has gained a few pounds. So much for the "Great Castiglione"! </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Gutsy move by Stoops. I applaud him--there's a lot of Div I-A coaches who wouldn't have done this.
I'm seeing this statement a lot today, did Stoops really have a choice? Bomar reportedly received $18,000 for working 5 hrs a week... that sounds like a no-brainer, similar to Clarett's suspension.

Reggie Bush's parents received a heck of a lot more than $18,000, and he did zero work. Do you see USC doing anything about that? Stoops took the high road here IMO.

It had nothing to do with guts. The allegation is that Bomar accepted as much as $10,000 in benefits for no-work jobs.

The NCAA would have axed Bomar for the year anyway. It wasn't the same as Troy Smith repaying $500 over a misunderstanding. $10K makes things a whole lot more complicated, moreso once the IRS gets involved.

Did USC know about that while Bush was playing?

I don't think Stoops was sitting at his desk and saying "I'm going to take the high principled road, even if it costs us a chance at a championship"...I thnik he knew he had to do this or face bigger trouble later.

The only explanation I can think of for such a quick, decisive and extreme punishment is that this is much bigger than what we know today. Some insiders at OU are indicating that this is about to snowball, taking out more players and staff along the way (not just with the football team)
