Ohio State's Freshman Class

Lets see, I had a 25 ACT, 3.6 GPA and was ranked 11th in my senior class. However even with those numbers, I was denied admission to the main campus at OSU, and instead was directed to the Newark campus. This is all while I saw two kids at my school, both of whom had lower grades and test scores (One had a 17 ACT, the other a 19 ACT) receive admission to the main campus.

Ohio State was my dream school, but really that seemed like a slap in the face. I understand OSU being more and more competitive, but come on lets get real here, what was the thought process with the admissions department to refuse my admission with a 25 ACT and then turn around and accept a 17 ACT?

How? Ohio State's admissions department is knocked as overly numbers oriented these days, and ACT and class rank are all they really look at.

Were those two scholarship athletes or had some other serious extenuating circumstances? Last year's freshman class only had 9% that scored a 24 or lower. That's 550 students out of a freshman class of 6120. To have two kids who scored lower than 20 come from the same high school sounds very odd. Do you know them, or could this be some urban myth that made its rounds around your h.s. among kids who weren't let in.

The one with the 19 I only heard about, didn't really know the person that well, so I really can't verify that one. However the kid with a 17 I knew, saw the ACT results and acceptance letter to Ohio State Columbus campus. Ended up turning down OSU and choose another school.

I'm thinking it did. She was also a foreign (Haitian) born student

I'm okay though, right now I'm doing great at ODU, on a academic full ride, with a 3.87 GPA. OSU wanted me to pay about 3/4 of the cost. OSU can have their spot and give it someone else.

Pshhh maybe you should have gotten better grades in H.S.

I got a 21 on ACT and graduated with a 3.0 in one of the better public schools in NE Ohio and I was accepted in 2005

I graduated with a 3.6

While my school was not one of the better schools in the state, nor was my district, I still think it was kinda messed up.

admissions anywhere is always messed up.

just be glad you are going to college, a lot of people can't do it, or don't. It sucks you didn't get into your dream school, but maybe you can work hard and get into one of OSU's grad programs. That would be a cool goal.
