Ohio State's Freshman Class

ORD_Buckeye

Wrong glass, Sir.
The numbers are in, and they are good.

Applications to Theee Ohio State University were up by more than 20% to 23K+ while applications from students with 32+ on their ACT were up 50%.

Over 23,000 applied for 6,150 spots in the freshman class. 56% were accepted.

65% graduated in the top tenth of their high school class while 95% graduated in the top quarter.

The average ACT score is over 28.

Good stuff. I'm curious to see how those numbers compare to the other Big-10 schools.

Last year, we were 6th in the Big Ten for admissions selectivity. We'll definately jump Penn State and maybe Illinois. The initial numbers are in the range of Wisconsin, but they may change slightly based on how the yield shakes out.

Uh, maybe I'm missing something here, but my math says 56% of 23,000 is 12,880. How are they going to put 12,880 in 6,150 spots?

Damn-I had a 28 on my ACT and tOSU was my slamdunk lock school. At least I can look my future Buckeye alumni in the eye and tell them that I could have been a Buckeye w/ today's standard's, and not just those of the early 1990's.

meh, okay for a diploma factory like tOSU I guess, but please do tell, how does the incoming class of the elite academic instutution of Ohio, y'know, the one in Oxford, look?

Well, apparently grades and test scores no longer matter:yow1: , because they look for "Miami Men & Women.":slappy: There's also a lot of angst and hand wringing at the beginning of the thread over someone with a 27 ACT who wanted to go to Ohio State (wait...she wanted to go to some place called A&M) but had to settle on Miami as her safety school.

Later in the thread, they turn on one of their own, telling him to transfer, for daring to say that Ohio State's campus is not a ghetto.

Miami Men & Women?

And let's not lose sight of this complete tool! http://www.miamihawktalk.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=35487

I hope the precious little prick manages to let his future professors know that he considers the institution where they teach to be, "Cow College A&M."

But enough of that overgrown boarding school in Oxford. This thread is to celebrate Ohio State's achievement not the school that is being left in a cloud of Buckeye dust.

I heard the ACT was dumbed down twice since I took it in 1990. Do you know if that is true?
