It's never bothered me any. We had a girl on my wrestling team in high school and my daughter wrestles now. Next year she'll get to wrestle all girls but in middle school she more than held her own against the boys.
I'm not under the impression that girls can do it just as well as boys - the girl who placed 6th is a mega-exception, not the rule.

Have to agree w/LittlBuck. How many times in the B10s this past week did we see a guy try a double leg only to end up with his head stuck between the opponent's upper thighs because he couldn't finish the move? That predicament versus a female opponent just wouldn't be right.

The kids don't seem to mind really...at least in my experiences as a coach and having a daughter wrestle. From the 20 or so matches she's had in the past 2 years, when the boys get into trouble they don't seem to react any differently. I have seen a couple come out a little more aggressive because they see a girl, but otherwise I've not seen any issues from opponents.
When she first started, there was some hesitance at first from her teammates until she stuck with it and they got used to her wrestling with the boys. After that she was accepted by everyone. She's had one issue with another boy from New Albany being a moron before a match (he lost his team a point for it), and she pinned his ass in the 2nd period

She's had some great coaches in Middle School and she's already met the High School coaches that she'll have next year and she's very excited to actually wrestle girls instead of boys all the time.The physical differences that emerge at the end of Middle School and into high school make wrestlers like Leilah Castro last year (although she missed her chance at states due to COVID) and Olivia Shore this year extreme outliers. It is what it is, and with the Iowa AD talking about it I don't think it will be long until we see Division 1 Women's wrestling somewhere.

Not a great start but could be worse. Heinselmann got upset in his first match against Howard from PSU, won his first consolation match. D'Emilio got beat in his first match but won his first consolation match. Sasso stuck his first guy and was seconds away to losing the next round to a 19 seed, I thought he was not going to win that one but got a takedown to win by a point right at the end. Smith won by decision in his first match, got a tough one here soon in Wittlake. Romero also won by decision. Rocky got pinned. Orndorff was the one pleasant surprise at heavy and beat the 12 seed from Nebraska. More to come.

Did anybody watch that Sammy Sasso match? Holy smokes. Secured a takedown with a few seconds left to edge out a 1 point win over a very game 17 seed.

Ethan Smith comes back from an early deficit to win a HUGE match against a very tough Wittlake, 4-3. Very glad for Ethan, kid works so hard.

Sort of like the Ohio State basketball team's 3 wins in the B1G Conference Tournament. They may not be very pretty, but a win is a win; which is all you need to advance to the next round, etc.

Does anyone know if quarters in the morning will go like this round, meaning will they only do 125-157 in the first session, then the rest in the second session? I've gotta catch our 174 match.
