Looked into Campbell a little more and he actually beat the kid Burcher lost to in his second match 4-0 and looks like he could have easily won 3-4 matches, and ended up ranked #14 at 165. Looks like he could be a nice addition and helps gap a perceived weakness. I still really want to see the following lineup if weight/health permits (this is my way early outlook):
125: Rodriguez - Really think injuries held him back and if healthy, he would have made a run at AA status. Look for him to make that run next year at full health.
133: Tomasello - Should have won it all this year but he should next year, although Gross could give him some issues. Still, think we have a champion here.
141: Pletcher - I know he was wrestling up this year as a true freshman, but he really performed pretty well. If he plans on being at 141, he can develop the upper body and be better suited for 141. However, if Hayes cannot comfortably wrestle at 149, Hayes stays down here and Luke redshirts...as far as his personal development, a redshirt might be best.
149: Hayes - We have all been dying to see him wrestle and hopefully all these injuries do not prove to be too much to overcome. If he could bump up and be at full health, he could be a big plus for us here.
157: M. Jordan - Micah could easily make the leap to 157 and was a big 149 last year. In terms of competing for a title, he isn't beating either of Retherford or Nolf, so just getting to finals is the key for him next season. However, that might be a little bit easier at 149 if Kemerrer stays at 157. If he stays at 149 and Hayes at 141, you just have to hope that Ryan is healthy...he has wrestled at a high level when he is and could win some matches at the tourney.
165: Campbell - As mentioned above, should be a boost for us even if it is not astronomical. However, I guess I have not yet considered if he will be eligible to wrestle for us next year with the transfer? If not, Burcher is better than nothing and is capable of winning a match or two in the tourney. Obviously the ideal situation is that White can come in...he just smashed his way to a DII title for Notre Dame. No idea if he will be eligible or sticks with us though. If he can go for us, then I see a likely AA at this weight.
174: B. Jordan - Really hoping to see Bo get a title here for us. It will not be easy with Hall and Zalencia at the weight, but he certainly can do it.
184: Martin - I think he will be much better adjusted here and will make it to finals with all of Dean, Brooks, Dudley, Boyd, Dechow and Jackson graduating. Nickal still looms large but just making it to finals is huge if he can do it and he always has a shot against Nickal as he has proven in big matches in the past.
197: Moore - This is another weight where graduations will serve us well and in this case, I think in the form of a championship for Kollin, who only keeps improving. With Cox, Pfarr and Studebaker all graduating, the path is clear if he wrestles well. There are still some good wrestlers here in Haught, McCutcheon, Weigl, etc. but you have to like Kollin's chances.
285: Snyder - Should bonus his way to another title if healthy, nuff said.
- If you look at that, you could realistically have 6 guys in the finals and that the majority of your points come by winning in the quarters/semis. I know PSU is going to be brutal next year, but look at 174-285...you could realistically have a 4-win domino effect there in the finals much like PSU pulled off.
