Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Hated to see Heflin lose in his senior year to a freshman but agreed, can't really complain with the stalling call. He needed to create more action and I think he was worried about the offense from Cox. Logan looked like his dominant self, just an incredible performance. And to recap how awesome next year will be: Tomasello, DiJulius, Logan Stiber, Hunter Stieber, Mic Jordan, Bo Jordan, Martin, Courts, Snyder, and Haines. Completely new lineup sanz a few guys but it should be exciting and give us a chance to win it all.

The key next year is getting a lot more production out of Courts, Roberts, Tavanello and DiJulius. Those guys all need to be AA if OSU has a shot at a title. Both Stiebers are back as well as Demas, Tomasello, Jordan and you would expect production from some of the Freshman class.

I was just about to say the same. Roberts and Tav won't be in the lineup (presumably Tomasello will beat Roberts and Haines will beat Tav), but Martin, Courts, and DiJulius need to AA for us to win I think. Logan will win it, Hunter *should*, and Snyder likely will. 3 champs would certainly put us in the thick of it...but I think Bo is also going to make a run. Even if we get 4, we still need production elsewhere and that is why I was disappointed with Courts, Martin, and DiJulius...all 3 should have been on the podium imo. That being said, they come into weight classes next year with a ton of graduations, so they should place.

CLEVELAND – For decades, the rap against Ohio State was that it sat square in the middle of prime wrestling country, but rarely was a legitimate contender for the national championship.

OSU Coach Tom Ryan believes he has bridged that gap and many in wresting circles agree the Buckeyes will be a strong contender for their first NCAA championship next season, if not the favorite.

Thought this part of the article was really interesting
“You have the two Stiebers leading the way who, if they wrestle to their potential, will score 50 points,'' Ryan said. “About 110, 115 points is going to win this thing. Among eight other weight classes, we've got to muster up 60 points. You start putting numbers together and you've got to average seven points a man to put yourself in a position to win. If they live the life of discipline, we're going to be in a position to win it.''
Putting quite a bit of pressure on the Stieber's brothers. It was also interesting to read that Ryan thinks we will be contenders for the next 3-4 years and hopefully longer. Already has some replacements in line for the brothers:biggrin:

I think that type of longevity is certainly attainable if we keep recruiting at this level. The Jordan brothers may well mirror the success of the Stieber brothers moving forward and Snyder has big point potential in the tourney...we have that at least for 4 years. Plus we still have Hunter Stieber for 2 more years contending for a title, Courts/DiJulius/Martin will only be juniors and should AA, Tomasello should be a title contender for the next 4 years, and Haines should be very good at Heavy for the next 4 years. Next year we are undoubtedly set but we just need a few guys to come in at the middle weights (133-157ish) that can contend in the coming years.

Great O-Zone story here:

Stieber, Ryan, Eye National Team Title

Logan Stieber

Just two days after the Big Ten won its eighth-consecutive NCAA title, Ohio State coach Tom Ryan said the Buckeyes have a good shot at making it nine in 2015.

"Let's say 110 points wins (the national championship). We have the potential to score 145, 150 points," Ryan said. "The potential. That's real."

Great start to next year's march to mat greatness. 11W has an article showing tOSU got the #1, #6, #9 wrestlers in the country to commit. It appears to me (but I'll let experts like Hiney expound more eloquently) that tOSU filled some graduation holes and solidified some back-up positions. Heck no one seems to go a season without getting hurt, so that is wonderful. Plus as one kid graduates, the next one slides into his spot. Wonderful news. Coach Ryan is working magic on the mat. When will tOSU build the wrestlers a multi-million stand alone facility? Go Bucks

PSU got 3 or 4 Top 15 recruits also and with the guys that they have coming back it is going to be a dogfight between the Buckeyes and the Pedsters.

3 of the top 10 recruits; plus a ton of returning talent; plus a ton of talent coming off redshirt years. Yes, looking very good for next year (and the next several years). RB07OSU is closer to the situation than I am. Check out his analysis in posts #321 and #328 a couple pages back.

See the post Hiney referred to at the bottom. Flo also released their final rankings with Snyder at #1 (unanimous across the board, kid is light years above everyone...unreal), Haines at #8 (will have some tough matches with the #1 at HVY but easily an instant impact here), and Mic Jordan at #9 (might have been higher if he had some bigger matchups this season, they just didn't transpire...wish he would've wrestled Nolf). Snyder will vie for a title immediately (especially with last year's 197 champ J'Den Cox reportedly bumping up), Haines will be an AA most likely and potentially make a run at the title, and not really sure if Mic is going to be an immediate AA but he certainly has it in him.

What a lot of people do not realize is that a redshirt means nothing in terms of talent when it comes to wrestling. We redshirted Bo Jordan and Nathan Tomasello last year, both of which would have likely competed for national titles or at least had AA status...both dominated the open circuit and are top notch. Plus we redshirted junior Hunter Stieber, who would have won a title or at least been top 3. All those guys had their eligibility saved so we can make a run this year and years coming.
