Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Naw. These guys will just win the NCAA's and waltz over to the Olympic venues and earn gold.....so easy a caveman could do it. Serious answer - never considered that. Thought Snyder was either a Greco-Roman or Freestyle guy, so quite possibly. Good save G.O.A.T. ( or should that really be BigDog?)

It is pretty rare for that to happen and I doubt it happens again soon after Howe attempted it and did not pull it off. Snyder MIGHT be a threat (has the physical makeup and excellent freestyle ability/experience) but considering the likes of Dake, Taylor, etc. never doing it, you realize the company you must keep to consider yourself Olympic-level competitive before leaving college. The rest of the guys? Not happening.

Team USA beat Team World in Beat the Streets, huge win and especially without Dake wrestling. Unfortunately, Stieber lost 6-2 (not too surprised, freestyle is not necessarily his gig) and Snyder lost 6-3 (against a gold medalist and 5 time world champion...was only down 4-3 heading into the 3rd, absolutely incredible). But David Taylor beat a bronze medalist 6-0, Ruth teched his guy, Burroughs pinned his, and both Jimmie Kennedy and Jordan Oliver won. Oliver beat Novachov, which is huge for him...Novachov skipped college wrestling to only do freestyle for Bulgaria. Most impressive, Brent Metcalf took down the world's #1 wrestler 11-8. Big day for American wrestling.

Saw a little bit of that and Snyder looked like a man child. I know that the Russian beat him but the Russian looked like he just came out of the woods:biggrin: In the time I was watching, the Russian took Snyder down at about 30 seconds later Snyder did the same to the Russian. Go Buckeyes!

Yeah Snyder is just so far ahead of the game...to even compete at that level internationally right now is absolutely incredible. I hate to put so much expectations on him but I would be surprised if he does not end up being the most storied wrestler we have had at OSU. Football is so unpredictable but wrestling you get a pretty accurate sense of early on. He is going to be a phenom.

Snyder won the title at the International Juniors Championship

IZMIR, Turkey – American Kyle Snyder earned a gold medal at the International Junior Champions Tournament on Saturday.
Snyder (Woodbine, Md./Sunkist Kids/USOTC) defeated Zaynulla Kurbanov from Russia 1-1 in the freestyle finals at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. Snyder won a Junior World title in 2013.

Both wrestlers scored passivity points after their opponents were put on the shot clock. Snyder won by virtue of scoring last.

Snyder recorded two technical falls and a fall en route to the finals.

So this is a really premature list but Graham is going to be a hotbed in the next 4 years for us...3 out of the top 10 incoming freshmen in the country overall are Falcons, including Rocky Jordan at #9. I've been told that Rocky may well be the best of the three in the family (his brothers are Mic and Bo, who of course are Buckeyes now)...crazy to think that, seems like yesterday he was 3 years old and rolling around on the mat with us, now he is a freshman in high school. The others are Ryan Thomas (#6 overall) and Mitch Moore (#5 overall) in the first link. Intermat has Thomas as #2 overall and Rocky as #4 overall...kids are going to be hammers. Safe to say Coach Ryan will be a mainstay in St. Paris for awhile. I also expect us to pursue Alex Marinelli, Graham's 160 lb. guy...could grow into the 174 or 184 spot down the road and he should be the top guy at his weight this year as a junior. It will be interesting to see if we can take down Blair again in the upcoming years.

I am curious to know how the Falcons became such a powerhouse in wrestling or have you posted that someplace else… Thanks.

No problem, I love talking about my Falcons  Without the background, one would certainly wonder how some podunk town with a public school that graduates about 120 a year is competing with massive private schools like Blair Academy and St. Edwards. They were always solid but were really set up when Jim and Jeff Jordan both won 4 state titles back in the 80s. Jeff came back and quickly established himself as the nation's best coach (or at the very least top 3). He runs a camp where you get "Jordan Trained"...it is the Jordan State Champ Camp and the goal is to build state champion wrestlers. All the top kids in the country go to the camp and it is a no frills hell week but is the best there is. Inevitably, the kids go to the camp and realize what 4 years of tutelage under Jeff Jordan can do and end up transferring there. I believe it has been awhile since we've had a transfer in high school, but it used to happen with frequency (I was one of them). However, a lot of kids transferred early on and have been training with Graham their whole lives. That is what David Taylor did (he was from Wyoming).

Anyways, they have about 4 years of dominance left in all likelihood...it is pretty well known that after Rocky graduates, Jeff will retire.

Alex Marinelli verballed yesterday to OSU!

Alex Marinelli verballed yesterday to OSU!

Yeah that's huge. He was a recent offer and his ceiling is through the roof. Really quick on his feet and will beat your head into a pulp. Needs to get more consistent off the mat. But he was one of the more underrated wrestlers in the country because he was at such a tough weight as a freshman and sophomore. My suspicion is that he will blow it up the next two years and drop maybe one match at the most. I'm beyond giddy to see a lineup down the road with Mic, Bo, and Marinelli. I never thought I would see the St. P pipeline flow but man am I glad to see it now. Welcome aboard Alex!

I talked to my Graham guys though and this is huge down the road. Our freshman class (as I said above) has three guys that will all likely be the top guys at their weight...We will be very active there.

Just picked up the #3 overall recruit in the country Myles Martin at 174/184. Haven't seen him wrestle but obviously the kid is crazy talented and it is extra exciting given the weight class. Either weight we could use him. I could see a scenario where Bo and Mic both bump up and you could see a great stretch in our lineup next year with Hunter at 157, Mic at 165, Bo at 174, Martin at 184, Snyder at 197, and Haines at Heavy. Also, we landed Jose Rodriguez from Massillon Perry, who is rated the #49 overall and is projected at 133. Throw in Marinelli in a couple years who will be in the 165-184 range and our roster is pretty stacked down the road and well balanced. Now we just need to get someone in the 141/149 area for Logan's imminent departure.

The link below is handy (intermatwrestle.com), it is a commitment tracker for all wrestlers. Also, Eli Seipel from Graham committed to Pitt recently (not really an OSU target but just thought I would mention my Graham guy).
