Good question, and RB probably knows more than I do. But I remember hearing that Hellickson somehow had alienated the St Ed's coaching staff (don't know the background). Then when Ryan was hired and we immediately brought in Lance Palmer, Collin Palmer, and Sean Nemec, people were excited thinking the logjam had been broken and St Ed's best would now be headed to tOSU. But since then, have we brought anyone else in from St Ed's? Now you've got me wondering what's up.

Well we landed Eds (arguably) best wrestler in Martin, who will be a freshman next year. Personally, it is a bit of a pick and choose...though Ohio is likely the most stacked wrestling state (or PA), the styles vary greatly and to me, the PA wrestlers and elsewhere tended to be better from top, which is greatly important for riding time at the next level. So in terms of strategy, I would never suggest stocking up on just Eds and Graham kids, or simply just Ohio.

However, OSU certainly has not tapped into those programs like they should have but much of that does fall on Hellickson. He had a HORRIBLE rap in both schools. Ryan has done better with Eds, but I just do not see a Graham kid going to OSU anytime soon (this coming from wrestling there). It is not so much the current staffs fault, as they have put in the effort, but a pattern of Graham kids going elsewhere...the Jordans will always go to Wisconsin and the rest will wind up at VTech, Wisconsin, or some other Big Ten school usually. That being said, with the exclusion of David Taylor (who was going wherever Sanderson was), I think OSU has landed the same caliber of wrestlers elsewhere. Regardless, me and my family are hoping to see some Falcons start heading to Columbus...I hate rooting against my friends :biggrin:

Looking forward, the three top wrestlers on Eds are Dean Heil (OKSU commit), plus Domonic Abounader and Edgar Bright (both uncommitted). OSU should be legit contenders for Abounader and Bright, who should both be top 50 overall. The top two on Graham are Bo Jordan (likely the #1 overall recruit nationally, but also likely headed to Wisky, although OSU stands an outside chance) and his younger brother Micah Jordan, who is a sophomore. Graham is going to be way, way down next year barring transfers.

Chris Phillips will also be transferring to Ohio State. He was the fourth 4x state champion from Monroeville but decided to go to NC State. Things did not work out, so he will be bringing his services to Ohio State this fall.

It is being reported on several other sites that Bo Jordan has committed to Ohio State. Bo was ranked as the #1 152 pounder in the nation last year and may well be ranked as the #1 overall recruit in the 2013 class. Huge huge pickup for OSU.

For those who don't know Bo is the son of Graham coach Jeff Jordan & the nephew of former Ohio State assistant coach Jim Jordan (both were 4x State Champs at Graham).

This also breaks a long tradition between the Jordan family & Wisconsin. Both Jeff & Jim wrestled for Bucky, Jim's son Ben just completed his senior year in Madison and Isaac is headed there this fall. Bo's brother Micah is also carrying on the family tradition, having won his 2nd state title this year as a Soph.

Wow, that would be awesome! I never even asked about Bo, I just assumed he would head to Wisconsin. IMO, he is heads and shoulders above all other wrestlers in the country regardless of weight class...nobody can even touch the kid. I believe he lost 1 or 2 matches his freshman year, then went undefeated the next 2 years. By far the best of the Jordan progeny, but we will have to see what Rocky (I believe he is in middle school now) will do. Rocky wrestled before he walked and should be a stud as well. Either way, this would be arguably the top commitment OSU wrestling has ever received. Plus, I think that would be the first Graham kid to go to OSU to wrestle in my lifetime. Hopefully they can get Mick down the road as well.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but don't they wrestle 'up'? Meaning going from the lightest weights to the heavyweights? It looks like OSU will be 'thick' in the earlies and the middle classes, rendering the heaver weights moot. (That's kinda my question).

Having said that, we've not had a great heavyweight since the guy that almost got on the Olympics, believe he's an assistant coach now..(Rowlands?)...

Anyway, it looks like the grapplers are back on track, and if we can keep the Steibler and Jordan pipelines going, the Buckeyes will be forces for many a year. New coaching can break 'bad blood' by kissing up and making champions of the kids they've got. Love it. Tired of seeing the B10's of Iowa and Wiscy/Minnie, and no S&G singlets showing.....just me though.


:gobucks3::gobucks4::banger: We're starting to be like Stanford (Director's Cup), and having the 'other sports' (wrestling, fencing, tennis) all being top 5 teams.....love that as well.
