Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Jacob Decatur wins D2 106# Ohio state title. 12-6.

Jordan Decatur wins a close one for D2 126#. 7-6. NaTo was in his corner tonight. Don't know for sure but would assume Nate was in Jacob's corner, too.

Carr beats Mattox. 7-1. I was able to somehow find a live Periscope for it and Carr was the aggressor from the start and looked better throughout. Carr is a must get. Mattox did not look good on bottom.
Watched it on Periscope as well and you are spot on. Carr dominated on top and was the better wrestler. He wore Mattox out with the head lever. Carr was clearly trying to show that the previous match wasn't his best effort.

I was watching that match and Spencer Lee in his final match of his high school career - trying to go perfect. Lee lost 6-5 on a last second takedown by Desanto. Lee beat Desanto 15-0 in the finals last year at 120. There has been some tweets that indicate Lee may have a torn ACL.

Hoping we land Carr despite his rivalry with Mattox. Sad that I did this, but saw David Carr's twitter page. You'd have to think we have a lead or are up there. The only recent retweeted videos are highlights of Bo Jordan > Mark Hall and Myles Martin > Bo Nickal.

Congrats to all of the Buckeye commits for winning state titles. Winning a state championship in Ohio is incredibly difficult and you can be the tops in the country and still go down.

I don't want to say that Mattox's previous victory over Carr was a fluke, because Jadden is a very very good wrestler...but I think Carr is just flat-out the better wrestler and when he is on, he is the best in the country...just need more consistency from him. I think they may very well end up at different weights anyways, would love to see Mattox as our 152 and Carr at 160 back to back. Everything I have heard indicates we are in front but that was before the Mattox commitment, not sure if that impacts his decision.

As an aside, my Graham Falcons won their 17th straight state title by a landslide. Mitch Moore, JD Stickley, Rocky Jordan, Ryan Thomas and Kavan Sarver all won titles. I hope Rocky is healthy next year for Ironman because he is right near the top nationally at 152 in my eyes. Ryan Thomas is another to keep an eye on, he beat Georgio Poullas in the finals, who is the #9 ranked 160 pound wrestler in the country currently.

Somewhat related question for the Ohio guys... why are there no decent quality OHSAA Wrestling tournament videos available on YouTube (or pretty much anywhere else)? Why do we need to rely on low quality Periscope and video shot from the stands with cell phones? In PA there are multiple high quality feeds to watch of each match. OHSAA needs to get their act together and catch up with technology. End of rant....

Good question. As I recall, last year Ohio Sports Network (or whatever the Ohio high school sports channel is on) replayed some of the better state finals matches. Not sure if it was live though since I don't live in Ohio anymore. Seems like something that Flo or Track Wrestling would jump on if the rights were available.

The PA state wrestling tournament is probably the biggest deal among state tournaments for some reason. I played basketball and didn't wrestle in high school, and all anybody ever talked about around my town was going to Hershey for wrestling.

Two days out to the start of the NCAA, anyone have any predictions?

I don't feel good about NaTo's chances at First Place with so many close victories of late. Bo is in the same boat. Both are really operating on a razor's edge as far as likelihood of getting Firsts. That said, if we can get victories from those two, I think another NCAA championship is likely. Snyder isn't going to get techs through his entire bracket, so high finishes are important. We need wins from those three.

MyMar has Nickal's number, but like others said, Brooks is a different task for him. He probably gets matched up with Brooks in his third match, so the lay of the land isn't very favorable.

Rodriguez gets an 11-seed first, and then Lizak, so I don't know how many points he's getting us. Suriano was granted the 3-seed for PSU, but it sounds like he isn't going to provide much with his ankle.

Pletcher gets Ashnault in his second-match. Micah is on the same side as Retherford.

Overall, it's the NCAA's, so everyone's good here, but the path isn't the greatest for the Bucks to win it. I suppose Moore could become a man possessed and beat Pfarr and Cox! The good news is that PSU is weak at 125 and Oklahoma State, though very balanced, shouldn't rack up huge points throughout. We're in the mix with those two for sure. I'm a little worried about Nickal pulling the upset on Dean. Iowa and Va Tech will help even out the scoring, but shouldn't be in top contention.

Well with Suriano out, the field looks a lot better...I like one of the OSU's to win it, hope it is us. My thoughts headed into tomorrow:

125: Rodriguez has a really tought draw out of the gate in Terao...however, Terao is wildy inconsistent and is beatable. Then he would have Lizak, who he beat once when Lizak was sick and got gassed. Highly doubtful he wins two to get to quarters but not inconceivable. The most likely scenario is he loses the first match and hopefully wins a few in consolations.

133: I like NaTo to go all the way. He has had some inevitably close matches in the conference facing the same guys a lot, but he has also had some huge wins and has gone unscathed all year. He at least get to finals imo, he beats Clark again in the semis. Gross or Brock could present some issues since he has not wrestled either...I think NaTo faces Brock in the finals and beats him in a close one.

141: Pletcher will win us one in the first (hopefully with bonus) but is definitely not beating Ashnault...in fact, I have Ashnault winning it all at 141. Pletcher will need to battle back and win at least 2-3 matches in consolations imo...3-4 ideally and get near AA status.

149: Brutal path for Mic to even get to Retherford in semi's since he has to beat Sorensen...really would be huge for him to get to semi's. But in any event, anything less than 3rd or 4th would be disappointing. I think he takes 3rd or 4th, just hope he can beat Sorensen again.

157: No Buckeyes here and Nolf will roll, boring.

165: Burcher will get stomped by Zalencia in round one but we need to convert on the miracle that he got in and have him win a match or two in consolations.

174: Really do not know here...Weatherspoon is a tough draw in the second round but I do think Bo gets the rematch against Realbuto...and gets revenge in a nail-biter. It will be real close though. And I actually like Bo against Valencia in the finals more than I like him against Realbuto, just has to get there. This weight is just way more stacked that I though it would be to begin the year, I could see Bo winning it or taking as low as 6th. Maybe it is the optimist in me, but I say he wins it.

184: Mr. Myles "March" Martin is going to AA, I truly believe that. However, I hate how he matches up with Brooks and even if he gets past him, not sure he can win two in a row against Nickal. I like Myles to take no lower than 4th but don't see him getting to the finals...Brooks and Nickal is just a brutal path.

197: Moore is absolutely on fire and I like his upward trajectory to take him all the way to finals, beating Pfarr once again...will presumably have a tough match in Weigel in quarters and has to win that one to give us a chance. If he gets to finals, you better not count him out against Cox...he has come a long way and could knock him off. But I will predict a 2nd place with a close loss in the finals to Cox.

285: Snyder cruises to his 2nd title and beats Medberry handily in the finals by 3-5 points.

Overall, I like our position to take another title but there are so many variables. It is going to be an extremely close 3 team race between Ohio State, OK State and PSU, could go any which way. However, I feel Ryan will have us ready to peak at the right time once again and you heard it here...we get our 2nd national title this weekend.

I'm late on this but here's mine:

125 - I see Jrod going 1-2 and picking up minimum points - let's say 1 point - no AA
133 - I think NaTo is a finalist - I think he'll bonus at the same rate he did in the regular season but I think beyond the first 2 rounds he'll get only decisions and maybe a major
141 - I have Luke going 2-2 and missing on AA - he's not a bonus machine so those wins will be regular decisions
149 - Tough seed for Micah - I see a few bonus wins in the first two sessions and then any wins from there will be regular decisions. I like him to beat Sorenson but he'll lose to Retherford and need to do some work to get to the third place match. Not insurmountable but it will be a challenge and he could fall out anywhere from 3rd to 8th
165 - I see Burcher going 0-2
174 - I like Bo to get to the finals against Valencia and it seems like it's "his year" so I am going to say he'll win a close decision in the finals
184 - Loaded weight and I see Myles fighting it out for 5th with a lot of other guys
197 - I think beating Pfarr a second time with no 6 point move is going to be tough but I like Moore in the finals against Cox
285 - Snyder stated OSU needs to get bonus points and I think he'll be on a mission to get them on the way to the title

Team race... having Soriano out helps but PSU has quite a few point scorers and they'll be ahead of everyone else in bonus points. Ok State is going to be tough as well
