Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

maybe PSU packed it in for TV, but it was impressive with their attendance. Cale still looks like he could pin Superman, he intimidated me sitting on the sidelines. Saw some good effort from tOSU wrestlers, now I know what RB07 says that a 'shirt year doesn't really help. Gotta go to the mat in meets. Wrestle-offs don't seem to be the 'real McCoy' to these guys. PSU was balanced, and some of those kids, wow. The one #1, looked like he was half the physique as tOSU wrestler, but rolled up a big score. Don't switch channels, because when you come back, Snyder put up 18 points......starting to pick up some of the strategy, score two on a take down, let the guy go, get another two, repeat as needed... Go Bucks. Not sure, but we might have seen their best match (tOSU's, not PSU's). Our guys will make some noise in the NCAA's, and Nationals, but they're going to have to get some fantastic efforts from some of the lesser lights on the team. Go Bucks.

It is usually about that packed out, they get really good turnouts and it is a tough place to wrestle. And agreed that is as good as OSU could have looked at their place (with Stieber and Mark Martin out anyways) for the most part. Bo should have got bonus but otherwise, not shocked at the results. Put in Hunter and Mark Martin, we still lose but I see it being more of a 6-7 point match.

But at the end of the day, we still have potential to be a great tournament team. At NCAA's we always peak. I thought it was a fairly good showing for us and I still believe we can be in contention at nationals this year, although PSU is clearly the team to beat. I just could see 4 guys in the finals easily (Toms, Mic, Bo and Snyder), plus a handful of other AA's (Johnny D not likely but possible, same goes for Hunter, Jake and Courts, and I think Myles has a great shot).

Total aside, but Nolf is about as impressive of a wrestler as I have seen. Really going to be interesting to see him wrestle IMAR again. Nickal is also impressive but I do think Myles Martin is going to beat him at some point. And I do think Megaludis is the biggest threat to Toms getting another title, so it was good to see him get a win there.

Just real quick but to keep in mind how close 24-14 really is...Johnny wins and Myles pulls the upset (both of which almost happened)? We win. This was as close as PSU has come other than the VA Tech dual. And that scenario is not impossible and it almost happened on the road in a tough environment. I think we have a lot to look forward to this year.

FINALLY got to watch the dual on a rerun, been a busy weekend for me. Really bummed on Hunter even though I doubt he had much left with the elbows. Really feel for him personally more than anything but that will about seal off any chance we had at a title.

Bo looks so off right now, not sure what it is up...really surprised he cannot get a win over Isaac even as good as he is. Glad to see Courts gut out a win and really good to see Mark Martin get out there and win. Snyder is the most fun heavyweight ever to watch...ankle picks and low level singles, just ridiculous and a treat to watch...gas tank is unreal. Toms relentless as well and Johnny got him a nice win but I wanted to see him against Taylor. All in all not a bad showing at all.

When I watched Hunter wrestle this year it was like he had to alter his style completely because he was trying to stay out of ties that would stress the elbows and was taking shots from way out that had very little chance of scoring and even the lesser opponents had no trouble countering those. Two major sports surgeries in the last 10 months is a lot to come back from and I applaud the kid for trying. He left it all out on the mat. Get well Hunter.

No doubt, he was nowhere near the same wrestler as he was before the surgeries...that definitely restricted his offense big time. But you absolutely have to respect the hell out of Hunter for putting it all out there.

B1G allocations announced. 71 total spots as auto-qualifying

125 - 7
133 - 9
141 - 7
149 - 6
157 - 7
165 - 6
174 - 9
184 - 7
197 - 6
285 - 7

OSU should be a lock to get 125, 133, 141, 157, 165, 174, & 285. Courts is the 6th or 7th best 184 in the B1G and will need to wrestle better than he has all year to secure that spot but that should be within his reach. 197 & 149 with 6 spots each could be tough to get an AQ and right now. They may need to get one of the 46 at large bids in those weights if they cannot AQ.

We're on the eve of the B1G Championships, which should be fun but the OHSAA wrestling tournament is this week and as usual, there are going to be some VERY fun finals matches to watch. Side note before I jump into the matches of interest for Buckeye fans, the Graham Falcons put SEVEN wrestlers into the finals and have ensured their 16th straight state title...just incredible to think about, congrats to my Falcons. On to matches you will want to watch as a Buckeye fan (in my own relative order):

1. David Carr vs. Dominic Demas, 145 lb. finals in Division I: Carr might be the best sophomore in the country pound-for-pound and he is ranked #2 overall nationally at 145. He faces Josh Demas' younger bro, Dom, who has had an outstanding junior year going undefeated. I am taking Carr in this one but I would not be shocked at an upset. At the very least, expect to see a tight battle between these two Buckeye recruits.
2. Mitch Moore vs. Tariq Wilson, 126 lb. finals in Division II: I have said Mitch, only a sophomore, is a legit force for Graham and OSU is recruiting him hard. He faces a guy ranked above him slightly and an Ironman champion. Moore defeated Wilson the last time I watched them and controlled the match, but Wilson is much improved this year. Moore won a title last year as a freshman and has his sights on being a 4x champ, so this might be his biggest roadblock.
3. Kevin Vough vs. Kameron Teacher: I might be wrong, this might be the best match of them all. Kevin Vough is an undefeated junior Ironman champ from 2014 and the #2 ranked heavy in the nation. Teacher is also undefeated as a senior and won the Ironman this year (and killed everyone there I might add), and is also nationally ranked. This should be an all-out war...I am taking Vough but this could go either way. Bucks are going all out on Vough and he should be a primary target for next recruiting cycle.
4. Jarred Campbell vs. Matt Stencle, 220 lb. final in Division I: Campbell is a junior from St. Eds with a ton of talent that I would not mind seeing at OSU. He faces another highly nationally ranked senior in Stencel. Stencel pinned Campbell at Ironman but Campbell defeated Stencel in district's, so this match will be fun to watch.
5. Kyle Lawson, 160 lb. final in Division I: Don't have the bracket up but Kyle is a junior at Olentangy Liberty (formerly Graham) and will be going for his third title. He is in our backyard and OSU is definitely interested. Keep an eye on Kyle.

- Those are the big ones I can see but this will be an entertaining finals for sure.

Currently in 4th place...
1. Penn State - 72.5
2. Iowa - 68.0
3. Nebraska - 63.0
4. Ohio State - 43.5

OSU has 125, 165, 174, alive in the semi finals and 133, 141, 149, 157, 184, 197 in the consolation round. Iowa has 7 and PSU has 6

Notes... Nato has looked dominant. Micah Jordan was upset by Gulibon in the quarter finals and looked gassed. Jake Ryan lost a tough match in the quarter finals because he just couldn't get his offense going. Burcher got beaten soundly after he won a first round match. Courts got by in the first round but was dominated in the quarterfinals by Brooks. Mark Martin got an early TD then nothing in his loss to Burak/. Snyder dismantled the kid he wrestled. BoJo looked tired.
