Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Coach Ryan is doing a Twitter Q&A via the OSU wrestling account. One interesting thing is Kyle Snyder will likely return as a heavyweight. And that they won't use him every match so he can get the international experience he needs.

I guess I would like to know what happened at Missouri. I know you cannot win them all but there seemed to be a couple upsets that turned the entire match.

He did reference the they 'have to do a better job as a staff on "sacred issues" that we believe are non negotiable in reaching the highest level' in reference to a question on the impact of the Missouri match. It could be a general comment but it also could refer to how those upsets happened.

Aside from 125, 157 and HWT they looked very, very flat. Reminded me of the Lehigh match at National Duals last Feb.

Yeah, it was a very lackluster performance. I hate to say it, but I am not going to miss Johnny D at 133 at all...that fall was embarrassing and basically doomed us to losing that dual. No way he should have allowed a pin from that position and he just gave up on his back. And then Courts and Martin giving up bonus points was just inexcusable as well, albeit not entirely unexpected based on past efforts (Courts particularly, a tech fall there is just a complete lack of discipline and effort).

But that Micah Jordan match was a head scratcher as well...Mic should have won regardless but still had a totally unwarranted stall warning right out of the gate that made him wrestle a completely different strategy all match. And then the calls all went against Bo as well and his opponent stalled his ass off. I know I am biased there but the officiating was awful in both of the Jordan matches. Mic should have won and Bo should have got the MD.

I got excited about watching this team from earlier matches because of the effort and focus I saw, not because I thought we would win it all. Even if we lost with that same intensity and focus, I would have been proud of the team and the end result would not have mattered much to me. But I didn't see either from the vast majority of the team and it was disappointing. But this happens in wrestling and I expect to see some improvement against NU on Friday.

For a senior that is ranked anywhere from 4-8 JDJ's performance was embarrassing. You cannot give up a fall in that situation. JDJ is an enigma. He'll finish his career at OSU with a lot of wins but none that are really noteworthy and probably no AA. Courts... what can be said that hasn't already been. Giving up a TF is unacceptable. I think Martin is simply over matched at 197. They should have put Courts at 197 and allowed Martin to move up one weight instead of two. Though, I think Courts would also be over matched at 197 and Martin has a lot of trouble cutting so maybe it's not really an improvement.

Agree on Micah's match. The Missouri kid spent the entire neutral position on his knees or in a tripod. That basically took the single leg offense away from Micah and forced him to hand fight. At some point the NCAA needs to change the rules so that you can only stay on your knees in the neutral position for a 5 count or while in the process of initiating an offensive move. Otherwise that is stalling. Bo looked tired - maybe the cut was impactful. The Missouri kid is excellent from the top but Bo should be able to get out given his athletic ability and strength.

Early Dec match but some things need to change if this team is to get back to where they were last year.

Myles Martin Set to Make Starting Debut on Sunday
True freshman is 18-2 on the year with two open titles.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Myles Martin, a highly-touted true freshman on the Ohio State wrestling team, will make his 2015-16 debut in the Buckeyes’ starting lineup this Sunday at No. 11 Illinois, head coach Tom Ryan announced today.

Martin, who is 18-2 so far this season wrestling unattached in open tournaments, came to Ohio State as the nation’s top-ranked recruit at 182 pounds and was the No. 3 pound for pound prospect by Flowrestling. He will wrestle at 174 pounds this season for the No. 6 Buckeyes.

My assumption is that Bo will slide down to 165.

Lots of smoke out there about an announcement tomorrow that could involve both Hunter and Kyle. 11W will run a story tomorrow am with the news.

If part of that news is Snyder is coming back for the 2nd half of this season I wonder where he will end up. My uneducated eyes say we are stronger at heavyweight but I have seen rumors where that is his likely spot.
