Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

I am curious as to why Hunter would be ranked 10 at 149 by FloWrestling. He finished 3rd in the NCAA two years ago. Has his arm not healed properly since the end of last year?

It is all health concerns, always has been. When healthy, he is right at the top. Unfortunately, he just has never been very healthy in his time here. There are some serious lingering concerns about his health again this year. Not sure he should have wrestled at all this year but he just wanted in so bad. My guess is he will get eased in again.

He had dual Tommy John surgeries in April. In a sport like wrestling where the shoulder and elbows are a major stress point, coming back from that type of operation is very tough. I guess they'll try to ease him in this year but it's a lot to expect a full recovery after such a major procedure.

Big recruiting weekend coming up... Mark Hall, Luke Pletcher and reportedly Spencer Lee all on campus this weekend

I've heard Lee is a long shot but absolutely worth knocking the doors down for...one of the more talented wrestlers I have seen in the last 10 years. With Pletcher already committed, hopefully he can work on Hall and Lee.

Lee is definitely a long shot. You would have to think that Sanderson is gonna get everyone from PA he really goes after - similar to Urban in OH in FB. But there is a shot and he has worked out with NaTo and Logan. Lee is coming off labrum tear surgery and may miss the entire season. That's a tough rehab assignment.

In case this didn't get posted:

Ohio State athletics planning three new facilities at cost of $67.5 million

One of those projects is expected to be fast-tracked and hasn't been previously detailed, but it's a key to bringing most of Ohio State's 1,000 varsity athletes into the same area by attaching a new $30 million home for Olympic sports to the football headquarters at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

The projects are part of a long-range plan detailed in 2013 to center athletic facilities in a village on the west side of Olentangy River Road, where the football facility, basketball arena and practice facility, track stadium, baseball stadium, softball stadium and outdoor tennis courts are located.

The other two new buildings to be part of that area include the $30 million Covelli Arena, announced in 2012, that will host events for several sports, including wrestling, volleyball and gymnastics. Smith said the fundraising for that building is also above the $20 million mark. When originally announced in November of 2012, Ohio State hoped to break ground in 2014 or 2015 for that arena. Now Smith said the plans are to start that building in 2016 as well.

Also in the works is a new training home for the wrestling team at a cost of $7.5 million. That will arrive after the other two buildings. Smith said about $2 million has been raised for that project so far.

Held the preliminary wrestle offs and will have finals tonight. There are some really interesting moves (as indicated below, here is the link). Namely, I am shocked Mic dropped all the way down to 141. It will be interesting to see him wrestle off Hayes, but he likely wins it imo. And then hopefully Hayes bumps up to 149 and Hunter to 157 (when healthy). That lineup gives us our best shot at another title run...yes, I said that even without Snyder. I also think it is big that Bo bumped up, he should have a great shot to win it at 174, although he indicated he could bump back down. And I like Martin, Courts, Martin...although I would not count Moore out at 197, he is tough. And a really, really intriguing matchup at heavy.

PRELIMINARY WRESTLE-OFF RESULTS
197: Matthew O'Hara fall over Kadin Llewellyn
165: J.P. Newton dec. over Jeremy Scott - 6-2
157: Jake Ryan dec. over Cody Burcher - 5-2
157: Anthony DeCarlo dec. over Alex Sepeda - 5-3
149: Matt Davis dec. over Josh Powell - 5-1
149: Blake Riley-Hawkins dec. over Heath Phillibert - 4-1

133: Jose Rodriguez tech. fall over Stanley Hendricks - 17-1
285: Thomas Haines major dec. over Parker Knapp - 12-2
165: Seth Williams dec. over J.P. Newton - 8-3

Results below:

125: Tomasello over Manuche TF 21-4 (no surprise)
133: DiJulius over Rodriguez Dec. 11-4 (good win for JD, Rodriguez is decent)
141: M. Jordan over. Hayes MD 15-3 (huge win, Mic is going to be tough)
149: Davis over Riley-Hawkins Dec. 4-3
157: Ryan over DeCarlo MD 17-6
165: Kresevic over Williams Dec. 5-0
174: Bo Jordan vs. Jacob Bresciani (didn't happen it appears)
174: Myles Martin over Prezzia MD 14-4 (very impressive win for the youngster, wish he wasn't at the same weight as Bo)
184: Rozema over Courts Dec. 3-2 (wtf Kenny? easily the biggest shocker of the night, maybe injured?)
197: Mark Martin over Moore 8-6 (good showing for Moore)
285: Tavanello over Haines 6-3 (seems Haines might be a tad overrated, he doesn't seem to be close to Tav right now)

These are things standing out to me:
149: Hoping Hunter can come back late in the year
157: How good is Ryan? If Hunter can come back at 149, then 157 is my biggest concern assuming someone drops to 165
165: Will Martin come down to this weight?
174: I assume Bo would be here
184: Biggest surprise for sure.

My thoughts:
149: Same but it unfortunately might just look a lot like last year. Although we all wanted him back and he tried to gut it out, he injured himself worse and with the surgery, his status is unclear. If he can't go, I assume one of Mic or Hayes bumps up.
157: Ryan is not bad. I don't think he would AA this year but could win us some matches at NCAA's. Preferably though, Hunter and Mic move up so it would go Hayes, Mic, and Hunter 141-157.
165: I hope Martin could drop down but that would be awfully tough...there was some talk he could be at 184 this year. I think Bo would be more likely but it would be better for the team if Martin could get down here...Bo has a much better shot to win it at 174.
174: Bo is here for now...he can win it here but has said he might move back down to 165.
184: I am hoping Courts was not 100% or that is a bad, bad loss. And frankly, it hurts us when duals start.

Got word that Myles Martin is really struggling to make 174...he wrestled 182 last year and was cutting, so I guess it isn't incredibly surprising. So in other words, no chance he makes 165. Look for Bo to wrestle 165 in some of the bigger duals, 174 at NCAAs, which means likely no M. Martin at NCAAs unless he can beat Courts at 184. Also, looks like Mic and Hayes will split 141/149 until we get Hunter back. Ryan will be the man at 157 it seems, not likely Hunter bumps up.
