Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

If part of that news is Snyder is coming back for the 2nd half of this season I wonder where he will end up. My uneducated eyes say we are stronger at heavyweight but I have seen rumors where that is his likely spot.

Seems to align with Kyle's twitter account messages. I cannot see him getting down to 197. He's huge now. So that would leave HWT.

HWT. Pretty cool interview. Coach Ryan is the one who set it in motion.

Why is this? Is 165 more loaded than 174, or is it due to Bo's body where you think he is better at a higher weight?

As mentioned above, Dieringer. Bo likely wins it at 174. Not a walk in the park at all but he likely won't be Dieringer, that guy is on another level and is the best pound for pound guy in the nation.

Huge news on Snyder though, I wasn't even aware this was an option. What a selfless move. I highly doubt Snyder can win it at heavy but he will be a big improvement.

Oh and Hunter will be back for Illinois or the meet after. Huge addition. I'll be back to weigh in further but big news.

If Kyle can handle the international travel schedule he's gonna be fine at 285. I think he'll wrestle a lot of 2 points for 1 matches. No need to get caught up in riding. He is ripped up right now. I look at the top 5 285 guys right now and only Gwiz looks like someone he may have trouble with.

He will do well there, might very well AA at the weight. But I'm just not sure he can win it there but either way, it will be a big improvement.

If Hunter can come back healthy, adding Snyder and Myles to the lineup immediately puts us in contention. That leaves no real holes in our lineup and gives us the ability to score a ton of points. Even if Hunter and Myles don't AA, they will still score us more points than the previous lineup.

Loosely related but the Graham Falcons took down the #2 Blair Buccaneers today in St. P...came back to win 27-24 on the last match (feel free to break off a thread for Ohio HS wrestling if need be, because I do not want to derail the Buckeyes wrestling thread). Incredible gutty performance in which Buckeye target Mitch Moore stuck his guy with a cow catcher to get Graham within striking distance (followed up by his brother Brent also hitting a real slick pin), really got the crowd fired up. Also, Alex Marinelli embarrassed an all-American from Blair wrestling a weight up and took him down at will...really wish he would have stuck with OSU, he is going to win a couple titles at the next level imo.

Last mention is Graham's 220 in Johnny Shaffer...I have mentioned him before but he has about the slickest leg attacks I have seen at that weight. When he grows into his body, he is going to be a national powerhouse. To hit a sweep single like he does is just ridiculous. The Buckeyes will be keeping a close eye on him, remember his name. Kid is fantastic.

Great day for Ohio wrestling and as @BUCKYLE says, kids from Ohio have special powers.

Watched most of the Illinois match and have a few comments.

Tomasello is a beast and so was Isaiah Martinez.
JDJ's opponent looked stronger from a muscular standpoint and I seemed to affect the match.
Looking forward to seeing if Hunter is anything close to his old self. We have holes in the middle of the lineup.
I have no idea what Ryan was doing v Martinez. It seemed like he was always flat footed.
Welcome, Mr. Martin! Flat out dominated the guy. Though for some reason Illinois' number 6 rated 174 guy didn't go today.

Mark Martin went down and didn't move for a bit. Will be interesting if we choose to forfeit just to keep him healthy. Good to see him on all 4s and moving a bit. Currently leading 19-17.

Edit:

Concussion assessment. The way he didn't move when he went down, I'd play it safe and forfeit.

Martin wrestles and wins a rather non-eventful match, 2-1. Buckeyes win!

I am a little late now, but where did you watch the dual? I couldn't find it anywhere and just had to follow it on Twitter.

But a very good 22-17 win with both Burcher and Courts out of the lineup. Illinois also had a big gun out at 174 in Brunson (#5 in the country), whom I was looking forward to seeing Myles wrestle. Really big wins in the debuts of both Myles Martin with the tech fall and with Thomas Haines winning 2-1 against #13 Brooks Black, who is a very tough heavy.

A little disappointed that Johnny D got beat so bad and same with Ryan, although Martinez is just on another level than about anyone in the country. Best P4P wrestler outside of maybe Dieringer. But overall very happy with the way everyone wrestled, Illinois has a very talented team this year and we handled our business on the road a little short handed.

JDJ has one series of moves that are all based on the same technique - fireman's, barrel roll, etc... every decent wrestler that he encounters will be able to stop that and it basically leaves him with nothing offensively. Against bad competition you'll see him open up with a double or single leg attack but he never uses that against decent wrestlers.

Imart is on another planet - fun to watch. I am interested to see Imart and Nolf from PSU wrestle this year because I think that's the only challenge he'll get. No one else is even close. Jake was simply over-matched and had no chance

I thought Hunter would be back by the Illinois dual but word is he truly is healthy right now and back to his old level. If that is true, you are looking at an AA at the very least and the only chance at beating PSU. To be honest, I thought PSU was fairly beatable at the beginning of the year...but the emergence of Nolf and Nickal make it pretty tough to overcome that lineup. Not impossible, but close to it.

That being said, if we keep healthy this could be an absolutely epic NCAA's.
