Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

I was busy preparing for and watching the Tennessee game yesterday, but the wrestling Bucks rocked it at the Collegiate Duals in Nashville for a full 3-0 sweep. We handily beat No. 21 North Carolina 23-11 and stomped No. 14 Iowa State 29-10, along with an easy 36-6 win against Lock Haven. Mind you we did that without our starters at 165, 197 and HWT.

The team site details it well but here are the highlights for me:

- Kharchla is back at 174! And it appears he is healthy. Smoked the No. 16 wrestler in the nation from UNC, teched his Lock Haven guy, and had a decisive 8-4 decision against his ISU opponent.
- Davino wrestled and beat the No. 12 guy from UNC 5-0. Kid is going to be a stud. Bouzakis wrestled one match and got a major decision.
- McCrone killed his two opponents, pin and a tech fall. Kilkeary pulled an upset against the No. 23 guy in the nation. Both are solid wrestlers, but McCrone has real potential to AA. We've got two good ones at 125.
- The march of Mendez continues. He decimated his opponents, including a first period fall against the No. 19 guy in the country from Iowa State.
- Rogotzke bumped up to 197 and took a 10-2 major decision against ISU.

Davino / Shawver

Davino is going to be a very good one, almost took out one of the better and more veteran wrestlers at his weight as a frosh. I like him redshirting this year with Bouzakis at 133, I think a redshirt year to catch up physically and to the talent at the next level will do him good. Next year I could see Davino at 133, Bouzakis at 141, and Mendez at 149.

One other thing as we head into 2025 - this team has performed extremely well so far with the pieces we've had. We are 7-0 in duals and have had some very quality opponents. We took 3rd at Cliff Keen missing some guys.

There is a strong chance we are 11-0 in duals leading up to the last January match against Iowa on the 25th (upcoming are Oregon State, Illinois, Rutgers, and Purdue). But after Purdue, we have Iowa, Minnesota, *ichigan and PSU, so late January - February will be a brutal stretch. Either way, I think Ryan is getting the most out of what he has for this season.

Should put a goose egg on Oregon State. Guess it is time to pick B1G+ back up until the end of February.

125 No. 6 Brendan McCrone (R-So.) vs. Maximo Renteria (R-Jr.) - McCrone loses by a point. Seemed rusty and wrestled a bit sloppy.

141 No. 2 Jesse Mendez (Jr.) vs. Krayle Stormer (R-Jr.) - Same

165 No. 11 Sammy Sasso (Gr.)/Bryce Hepner (R-Sr.)vs. Murphy Menke (R-So.) Sasso wins 1-0. Gets his 100th win.
174 No. 11 Carson Kharchla (Gr.) vs. Sean Harman (Gr.) Kharch wins 14-3. Good start and then slowed down.
184 No. 14 Ryder Rogotzke (So.) vs. TJ McDonnell (R-Fr.) Rogotzke gets another fall.
197 Seth Shumate (R-So.) vs. Vaun Halstead (R-Fr.) Wrestled well. Gets a fall.

Nice first match back in 2025. McCrone will beat that guy next time around. Sasso getting his 100th win was awesome to see, got a nice ovation from the crowd. Feldman was on fire, teched a ranked opponent in no time. Great to have wrestling back on, got B1G+ for the next couple months.
