Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

If Rogotzke redshirts, I’m okay with seeing what Shumate can do. His path reminds me a bit of Paddy’s. He was physically more gifted at an early age in high school and was dominating upper classmen at a grown weight class. He probably is a 4 timer if not for Covid.

Paddy was similar in high school. Physically overpowered the comp to the point of breaking their will due to being relentless. That only goes so far when the strength level evens out and skill is more relied upon. That said, I hope he has a great season, and certainly hope the injury bug is behind him.

Our squad should be a place winner so long as the core of Davino, Bouzakis, Mendez, Welsh, Rogotzke, and Feldman stays intact. I appreciate what Coach Ryan does with the program too. By and large, he’s a develop/win here coach.

A few transfers here and there have helped the team in the past, but he’s not out there pulling in a mercenary squad like Iowa or Michigan have done recently. Even Okie State to some degree is doing this, but I will chalk up this year to DT being hired.

Cliff Keen will be fun. It’ll be a good test for our guys.

Agreed on all of this. Rogotzge to me, the choice is up to him but selfishly I would like to see a RS with no chance of a title and the upcoming talent (and soon to be announced incoming talent).

The guys you mentioned are going nowhere, they are committed to the team and Ryan. Ryan is a damn good coach and we're lucky to have him. It's just tough to even come close to Sanderson and here soon likely David at OK State. David is going to kill it there, I have never been around a more knowledgeable wrestler that also puts in the hard work. I'm not kidding you, all he did in high school was practice 3 times a day, go to class, and sleep. One time he begrudgingly went to a team movie night, he had a great time at that movie but he would never lost his focus on the ultimate goal that he eventually achieved. Cael is the same way and that is what makes the greats the greats.

But enough about that, we have some fun wrestlers to watch and the CK is going to be really fun to watch. I hope our guys do their best work and have some guys in the final. Really tough tourney.

Also meant to say I hadn't seen you in the wrestling forum before and even if I did, welcome! I love to see new posters in here, wrestling fans are a small group but it's fun to talk with other fans. Would be great to have you keep posting in here.

I haven’t posted on Buckeyeplanet in general, in quite some time. Always been a wrestling fan. I will be a regular in this thread.
Glad to hear that, we're a tight knit group but everyone who posts or follows the thread are very passionate fans. Looking forward to seeing how the CK shakes out, I will be watching tomorrow. I wish I could today but I have a pesky thing that is pronounced "job" I believe.
