Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Hopefully they also have folks at Walsh High School in Stow.. for the finest HS wrestling in the country
You could just hand out schollies at the Ironman (at same time as trophies).. and recruiting will be in great shape

Disappointing that Logan lost but we can't expect much this year when Ryan has basically already conceded this season by redshirting Hunter Stieber, Jordan, and Tomasello. Next year we bring in Snyder who will instantly be a top 5 guy at 197 (possibly #1, I'm serious when I say this kid is one of the best prospects I've seen and will be fresh off olympic training), Mic Jordan who could compete tough at 157/165, and Thomas Haines at Heavy (#2 in the nation at that weight). With a roster that I would guess ends up looking like this, we should be set for a title run next year, but at the expense of conceding this year:

125: Tomasello (should hit the podium come nationals, maybe high up there, kid is a phenom)
133: Roberts/DiJulius (Guessing this will be a battle, although Roberts could stay at 125 to face Tomasello but I doubt it...DiJulius is on fire though, I like his odds)
141: L. Stieber (champion, enough said)
149: H. Stieber (should be primed to finally stand at the top of the podium)
157: M. Jordan (will have to likely beat out Demas and Languis, could make a run at the podium)
165: Bo Jordan (he'll get on the podium, question is how high)
174: Martin (I'm guessing? Only real weak spot of this lineup)
184: Courts (should be able to compete for a title with all the graduations at this weight)
197: Snyder (will compete for a title immediately)
Hvy: Haines/Tavanello (it will be an interesting battle but Haines is a stud)

- I could see Roberts staying at 133, DiJulius bumping up to 141, Logan to 149, Hunter to 157, Mic to 165, and Bo to 174 to put our best roster on the mat. I don't think it's likely, but possible...Mic and Bo are really long and can easily put on the muscle mass to get up there, same with Hunter. The biggest stretch in this scenario is Logan bumping up that far.

Maybe Ryan Harris at 174. Or have Bo go up to 174 and Ryan at 165. The "Players" are there, just need to fit in the lbs.

Peace

Nice third-place finish by the Ohio State wrestling team with a victory against Oklahoma

COLUMBUS, Ohio– After dropping its semifinal match to No. 1 Minnesota, 25-10, the 13th-ranked Ohio State wrestling team answered with a 23-16 victory vs. No. 11 Oklahoma to finish third in the NWCA National Duals at St. John Arena in Columbus, Ohio, Monday. The Buckeyes improve to 12-5 overall (4-4 Big Ten).

Up next, Ohio State will host No. 16 Virginia Tech at 2 p.m. Sunday in St. John Arena. Prior to the match, seniors Alex Gordon, Joe Grandominico, Nick Heflin, Ian Paddock, Josh Whitt, Colton Bowers (manager) and Cassandra Prezzia (manager) will be recognized in the Buckeyes’ final home match of the 2013-14 season.

In the third-place bout vs. the Sooners Monday, the Scarlet and Gray reeled off six wins en route to its Top 3 finish in front of their home crowd in Columbus. Ohio State quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead thanks to a 4:17 pin by redshirt-freshman Nick Roberts over Sean Williams in the 125-pound match up. Not long after, redshirt-sophomore and ninth-ranked Johnni DiJulius increased Ohio State’s lead to 9-0 following his 6-3 decision over No. 7 Cody Brewer in the 133-pound bout. In the Top 10 match-up, DiJulius bettered his 2-1 lead entering the third period by scoring a reversal and taking advantage of a third-called caution on Brewer. With a riding time advantage of 2:21 and limiting Brewer to just an escape and reversal, DiJulius secured the 6-3 win.

Heflin beating Shiller down and Stieber destroying Dardanes was huge! (I know, I am super late to the party) Both Stieber and Heflin are getting hot when it matters. Also, looking through results it is a bummer Isaac Jordan went to Wisky...completely unexpected but he might take a national title as a freshman...just beat 2x champ Derek St. John last weekend and previous #1 James Green of Nebraska.

Totally unrelated but our Olympic team is going to be stacked soon when we add David Taylor and Andrew Howe after they graduate.

I know that you are Mr. Wrestling so I wanted to get your input about our chances for next year. I know that we have 3 top 10 recruits coming in but I also know that PSU has 3 pretty good recruits coming and also. I know that we redshirted a couple guys for next year so I was just wondering what your thinking is regarding our chances next season.

My post on 12/19 still summarizes what I think our lineup will look like, except I am thinking DiJullius for sure at 133 (Roberts is having a rough go at it) and Martin is starting to wrestle better at 174 and I could see him getting AA next year. Also, Mic Jordan really took a huge step this year and I think he could be ready to come in and turn some heads early at 149/157.

More directly, it is going to be an absolute battle with PSU for the title but I think we have the pieces as long as we stay healthy and peak at the end of the year (Ryan teams usually do just that). Haynes should be a HUGE improvement at Heavy, Snyder is the top recruit in the country and will likely immediately compete for a title (maybe even an improvement over Heflin), and as I said Mic has absolutely crushed it recently and should be an improvement over Languis/Paddock in the middle. Then you throw in Bo and Tomasello...the lineup will be scary good. However, so will PSU. Even though they are losing some big ones in David Taylor and Ed Ruth, they have Megaludis back at 125 (#2), Gullibon at 133 (#15), Retherford at 141 (#2 as a freshman, beat Logan Stieber earlier this year), Dylan Alton at 157 (#7), Matt Brown at 174 (#4), McIntosh at 197 (#3), and Lawson at Heavy (#14). Further, any weaknesses in their roster will be filled by their recruiting class (3 wrestlers in the top 10). It will be a brute but I absolutely think we have the talent to make it happen.
