Ohio State Women's Basketball (2023-24 B1G CHAMPS)

Is it just me or is Coach not exactly doing much coaching? Dont' seem him doing the X's and O's dance, and certainly don't see any of the Assts helping out. Didn't really get in anyone's face with some pretty bad charging calls (against the good gals), but continuously walked up and down the sideline chomping his gum......with the team he had the last two years, they pretty much coached themselves, and Kelsey, just kinda always threw it up and in. This team needs some leadership and direction, and don't see him doing this. The three freshwomen are playing pretty well, and the add-on seniors are filling an apparent need (outside threes and ball handling). Will say he's a great recruiter, and next year's team is gonna be a world beater in two years. Oh yeah, am liking Waterman more and more. Not the greatest athlete, but pretty basketball savvy. Go Bucks!

"She-Bron" is an All-American.

Kierstan Bell, a five-star guard from Canton's McKinley who will join Kevin McGuff's Ohio State team next season, was announced as McDonald's All-American on Thursday afternoon. The game will be played on March 27 in Atlanta.

Bell was a McDonad's All-American nominee along with three future Ohio State teammates – Rikki Harris, Kaelynn Satterfield and Jacy Sheldon – who did not make the final roster.

She is the No. 6 overall prospect in her class and the highest-ranked recruit to sign with the Buckeyes since Kelsey Mitchell. Ohio State's five-player 2019 recruiting class contains four top-100 recruits, including Bell. She committed to Ohio State on Aug. 25.

None of the three Ohio State men's basketball signees – five-star guard DJ Carton and four-star forwards E.J. Liddell and Alonzo Gaffney – were selected as McDonald's All-Americans, though each of them were among the 800 nominees.

Nice win against MSU last night. Broke MSU's 13-0 record at Breslin. Also wonderful to see the three frosh play meaningful minutes (along with two Sr transfers), and make huge contributions. Dorkas is a load, and way smoother than I'd expect any freshman to be. Held the MSU star to low numbers, and frustrated her to no end, to the point that MSU's coach said she needed to step it up, as she was 'playing soft in there'. Crooms is a diesel, would normally say she needs to get control, but when she plays free form she does so well. Three or four coast-to-coast drives, thru and over (!) MSU players. Aailah is also not as fragile as I thought, but asserted herself, had a good court awareness, and put herself in good position to receive the ball (and score). Can't wait to see what the next group of recruits do with these now-seasoned sophomores. Go Bucks!

Another good win against a hapless Wisconsin. tOSU women played 'down' to Wiscy's level early on, but then played some good defense, and decided to start making some shots from the field. Saw some relentless effort from the two grad xfers (Grande and Santoro), and then some great fill-in the blank effort from the three starting freshwomen, Dorkas, Croom, and Aliah (sp?). Dorkas (Juhasz) was cleaning the glass (14), Croom was doing her out-of-control driving and scoring, and Aliah was following shots, and doing some things that her slender body paid for in the paint. She'll get bigger and stronger, and mayhaps be a force underneath. Not many played, surprised Caretti (former Ms. Basketball in Ohio), didn't leave the pine. A good game of scoring runs, and answering runs, but Grande stepped up whenever needed. She seemed to be all over the floor. Wish we'd had her for four years, but probably wouldn't have gotten as many minutes with Kelsey & Co about. Team is coming together nicely, certainly wish they hadn't lost so many games early on, while they were 'finding themselves'. Tied for Michigan for fourth place (top four get double bye's in B10 tourney). Let's hope that Meatchicken loses a game, and tOSU can beat Rutgers this week. Alas, many of these games are not televised (at least not here in Cali). Go Bucks! Sorry about the bad spelling of names....

Tomorrow at 2:00EST on B10 network, tOSU women tee it up against Rutgers. Will be a good test for the Buckeyes, as Rutgers has been playing and winning well this year. A win on our homecourt might (plus a win or two in B10 tourney), might cement a spot in the Women's Big Dance. As always, I look through my S&G tinted spectacles. Somewhere I read that the 'folk' who make up the selection committee look at teams that are peaking at the right time. Let's hope and maybe a prayer or two that the girls continue to shine. Go Bucks!
