Did I read somewhere that tOSU added a new women's BBall coach to replace Mark Mitchell, aka Kelsey's father? If so, anyone near C'bus able to relate some facts? Seems somewhat strange to me that he was hired, his kids signed, played, graduated (Kelsey anyway), and then he's gone......help clear away the fog....Go Bucks!

There is little to suggest that the Mitchell hiring was anything less than it appears. And it didn't stop there. Kelsey's sister Chelsea was also given a full ride and during her illustrious career scored a total of 49 points.

At least McDuff isn't taking the team to Europe or I would suggest shenanigans are afoot.

Thanks oh8ch, so my take away is that was is legitimate, soooooo, is Coach Mitchell, now former coach Mitchell? Curious where he might have gone. BTW, believe that Chelsea is also a redshirt senior this year, unless she accumulated enough credits to graduate. BBall doesn't assign coaches positions (or do they), like FBall. Not too sure where or who he was coaching (nor any of other coaches, mens or womens)….Go Bucks!

It seems Mark Mitchell's days as an assistant coach in Columbus will not last longer than his daughter Kelsey's as he has left the team to pursue ...
and his twitter account.
I also saw where he and his daughter Chelsea were suspended sometime last December. The only reason he was coaching was because McGuff needed his daughter for 4 years and I would not be surprised if Chelsea was also in that package.
To answer your other question about Bball coaching assignments usually an assistant is assigned to work with one position group. At least in men's basketball. Cannot say that specifically about women's.

One thing is for certain.. There certainly will be more room on the bench without Chelsea and him taking up quite a bit of it.

OHIO STATE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ADDS ASSISTANT COACH JENNIFER SULLIVAN

It looks like the Ohio State women's hoops team has its replacement for Mark Mitchell as the school announced the hiring of former Missouri State Assistant coach Jennifer Sullivan.

Sullivan spent the past five seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Missouri State, helping guide the program to 93 wins and four postseason appearances, including an appearance in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

“I am really excited to add Jennifer to our staff,” said McGuff. “Her basketball knowledge and her diverse background will be a great asset as we continue to build a championship program.”

This "Coach" Mitchell talk reminds me of some comments I had held back when I attended the Big Ten Women's Championship a few months back. It was my first time seeing the Lady Bucks in person and I couldn't help but keep my eyes fixated on the bench, particularly Coach Mitchell who appeared to be doing absolutely nothing but taking in a front row seat to his daughter's athletic accomplishments. While other assistant coaches were engaged with players during the game and timeouts, Coach Mitchell simply sat back or slowly meandered his way out of the chair as if it was an inconvenience during timeouts. Total disservice to the remaining players' development. I'm sure I had more specifics/pointed remarks back then but alas I wanted to enjoy the Tournament win.

Simply put, it was disgusting. Happy for Kelsey Mitchell (who is now playing here in Indianapolis), but I am also happy to have that piece of the era behind the Buckeyes' program.
