Ohio State Women's Basketball (2023-24 B1G CHAMPS)

Tear up and burn the Schott basketball floor. In past two BB games (both women and men), tOSU has scored their least amount of points in forever. Gotta be the shoes, er, the floor!

Should've never left St. John. Cameron Indoor is older, and smaller, and suits Duke fine.

It gives them a real home court advantage, but you can't have a Taylor Swift concert in it.

Great that the Buckeyes won a 5 versus 7 game against Maryland. Distinctly saw the MD ladies doing full body slams against the Buckeyes. Also saw the refs in cahoots with Md. Some of those non-calls were outrageous, and tOSU ladies handled with dignity, while the Md folk should have gotten at least three technicals for grousing. Do believe that Md outplayed us, and was amazed that everytime looked at scoreboard (not entirely certain that Peacock is for me), we were only 2-4 points down. Give it to the good girls, they hung tough all game. Both wife and I were amazed when the announcer said that those were Jacy's first points of the evening (guess he meant basket). Everyone played a heckuva game, all four starters, and Ricki, Emma, did a good bit as well. Enjoyed Ricki (Rikki?) mixing it up with a couple of Md brutes (all seemed blocky), and Shumates second effort (and a missed follow! and putback was marvelous). Anyone else note that McDuff put Cotie in the high post, in isolation, and let her wheel and deal? Hope we see more of that, as Cotie had her best game in awhile. Also Mika (computer doesn't have all those oomlats etc), showed me some moves in the hole. Hesitate to call that an 'overall team win', but that's exactly what it was. Great job Buckeyes! Keep it rolling. PS, when the announcers put up the WBB standings, can see eight or so B10 teams in the dance. Unless they cannibalize themselves during league play. Keep it rolling against Iowa, please! Go Bucks!

Read somewhere it wasn't McDuff. The coach that sits on McDuff's left (our right on screen), is the key recruiter. She brought in Celeste, and was instrumental in the hotshot guard coming in next year (one of the bench sitters little sister). Ps, these two coaches don't seem to talk/say much to each other during game. Which I find exceedingly strange. Maybe a rift? Or maybe she's hunting her own HC position next year. Hard telling, so if anyone sees something differently, would happily consider it.
Not you cali, but this post has all kinds of bad juju. I hope that isn't happening or maybe McGuff is retiring to give her the gig?

Just in case anyone cares:wink:

After playing Notre Dame in the great outdoors last week on the USS Yorktown, Ohio State senior guard Tayler Hill didn?t drop to her knees and kiss the court at Value City Arena upon her return to Columbus.

She was, however, happy to be back preparing to play in the great indoors tonight in the home opener against Cincinnati (1-0).

?That I am,? Hill said, smiling.

The Buckeyes (0-1) lost 57-51 to the Fighting Irish in a game that included a blinding sun behind OSU?s basket in the first half and a steady breeze that lowered the temperature after halftime from chilly to really chilly.

Hill refused to blame the weather conditions for the defeat but admitted that ?there were times with the sun? when she had trouble seeing.

It's always good to beat any team from the University of Cincinnati:sad:
The ball moved the way that the wide-eyed Ohio State players had described it during the unseen hours of practice leading up to last night?s home opener against Cincinnati in Value City Arena.

From A to Z and all points in between, passes zipped and players moved and scored within an all-for-one offense that sizzled in an 87-49 victory over the Bearcats.
A quick team a season ago seems to have discovered a different gear since practice began in October.

?We?re so fast, you?ve got to be like this,? sophomore guard Raven Ferguson said, snapping her fingers twice. ?The ball just moves. It just doesn?t stop. It?s not dribbling around. It?s moving. That?s what I think the difference is.?

The 20th-ranked Buckeyes (1-1) declawed the Bearcats in the first half by hitting 77.3 percent (17 of 22) from the field and breaking to a 42-21 lead. The defense also was smothering ? Cincinnati shot 29.4 percent for the game.

?They?re a good team, and they play (darned) good at home,? Bearcats coach Jamelle Elliott said. ?I?ve been coaching this game for a long time, and I don?t think I?ve ever been part of a game where a team shot 77 percent from the floor, missing five shots. It?s hard to win games like that.?

Guard Tyler Scaife of Hall High School in Little Rock, Ark., is expected to announce her college choice today. Although Ohio State was in the senior's final five, sources say the Buckeyes are not her choice.

Scaife appears headed toward Tennessee, Rutgers or LSU. Her decision makes the Buckeyes 0 for 4 in efforts to find a guard or two to replace seniors Tayler Hill and Amber Stokes next season.

Linnae Harper (Kentucky) of Chicago, Saniya Chong (Connecticut) of New York and Jordan Reynolds (Tennessee) of Oregon previously passed on Ohio State.

The early signing period began on Wednesday.

Ashley Adams has the kind of demeanor and soft tone to her voice that marks her as a gentle soul.

Yet, this 6-foot-5 Ohio State junior center wasn?t shy about showing a sharper, more physical edge yesterday while leading the 20th-ranked Buckeyes past Winthrop 78-53 at St. John Arena.
Adams? statistics line ? 14 points, eight rebounds, six blocked shots and four assists in 24 minutes ? didn?t surprise senior co-captain Tayler Hill as much as her bounce did.

?I don?t think she?s added a lot (to her game),? Hill said. ?I just think she?s being more aggressive. She?s always had the talent. She?s always had the skill set. She just decided to be more aggressive this year. That makes everything a lot easier.?

Hill meant easier for everyone on the team. Adams and junior power forward Darryce Moore, who had career highs with 16 points and nine rebounds, dominated inside against the smaller Eagles (1-1).

?It comes with experience,? Hill said. ?It?s their junior year. Ashley played the last two years and Reece played last year. When you?re on the court and you get to play, you start to learn and to adjust your game.?

A women?s basketball game with 44 combined turnovers has the look of a Thanksgiving day kitchen after dinner. Dirty dishes, plates, silverware and whatever is left of the turkey seem spread from here to there.

At least Ohio State, author of 19 turnovers, could say thanks for a 70-54 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) last night in Value City Arena and look to clean things up later.

The 16th-ranked Buckeyes (3-1) didn?t ditch the Red Flash (3-1) until the midway point of the second half. Senior co-captain Tayler Hill scored 12 of her 23 points during a five-minute stretch when the lead grew from 44-41 to 62-48 with 8:30 remaining.

Ohio State played without junior center Ashley Adams, who reinjured a quadriceps muscle in practice on Monday that had bothered her in the preseason. Her absence was one reason for how tough Saint Francis made things at times, especially in the first half.

?She?s an integral part,? Ohio State coach Jim Foster said. ?We play through her. She?s a great passer, sure. And Tayler struggled (early). But I thought our defense was good. Games like this, they help you figure out who you are.

?Tayler doesn?t have to play great for us to win a game. We know we can win a game without Ashley. (Saint Francis) was aggressive, and they came at us hard. I like that. I liked the fact that we had to really, really work.?
