Well, February went in like a lion, but crept out like a lamb. Same with the Lady Bucks today. Up 22-6 at the end of the first quarter, it looked like the Celtics against the local high school team. Great passing, shooting, blocking out, and aggressive defense. Then tOSU turnovers started occurring. There were many, and most of tOSU's TOs turned into points for Rutgers. Not so the same for Rutger's TOs. Croom had, I believe, at least 13 TOs. Her bullet passes of the first quarter found Buckeyes alone under the basket for easy shots. Second half, they were out of reach, or (in Dorkas case), trying to catch a fastball standing 10 feet away. Ain't gonna happen. Rutgers huddled up at halftime, and schemed a way to break tOSU pressure. And installed a press of their own. Worked pretty darn well. More turnovers for the good gals. Then Rutgers started lighting up the 3-balls. And tOSU panicked, looked lost, gave up, I dunno. Not the same team that came out charging.....speaking of which, think tOSU had about half a dozen charges. Rutgers kept clawing back, and for a bit, it looked like tOSU would hang on for the W. Give Rutgers credit, they used their long and tall muscle under the basket, and effectively bottled up and shut down anyone wearing white in the paint. First half, tOSU outscored (in the paint), something like 24-4. But for the game, Rutgers had 16 (?) Offensive rebounds, versus 1 for the Buckeyes. Finally, our kids got tired. Only saw about 9 people play, and three (on the bench) never took off their warm--ups. Still there were some good things to take away, just more bad things that happened to let the game slip away. Hopefully the good gals will get some rest, put this behind them, and make a run in the B10 tourney. Want to see them get by Meatchicken (kept the 4th seed), and then tee it up again against Rutgers for the rubber game. Senior Day, so Grande and Santoro, along with Waterman will sail into the sunset. Never really saw much of the other three grad transfers. Oh yeah, one of Rutgers starters, Sierra Calhoun, was a starter for tOSU last year, and played pretty well for us. She contributed, but not so much for the opposition today. Go Bucks! Figure it out and rebound (literally and figuratively)..
