Game Thread Ohio State vs Oklahoma, 09/09/17 @ 7:30 ET (ABC)

Urban just emphatically stated that he won't consider pulling JTBIV.

So we may as well move on from that; and it's by no means the end of the world. JT has issues, but we have issues to fix in every phase of the passing game. Solve the others and he's more than capable of carrying us. The future may well be in the wings, but that's for the future.
And, frankly, I never expected him to. It's easy to vent here in the vacuum of a message board. But good lord, we need to re-evaluate how we deploy him.

I'll say it again, Barrett beat these guys last year.

Different defense, different wide receivers, different OC, same QB.

But yeah, let's blame the QB. :roll1:

He threw for 152 yards. It isn't like he put up Heisman worthy numbers last year. He was aided by an amazing catch by Brown and lots of YAC. Barrett wasn't the reason they beat Oklahoma last year. He also wasn't the only reason they lost this year, but he sure AF didn't help with the late throws, INTs, missed receivers, etc. Your statement about the different receivers, OC and defense only drives the point home further. You are saying that Barrett can win the big game if his team (receivers, defense, etc.) is considerably more talented and better coached than the other team. Apparently that isn't the case this year (it definitely wasn't tonight). Is that what we want? I want a QB that is good enough that he can win the big game with less talent than the other team. I'm not saying that the other QBs can do that, but it is becoming more and more evident that Barrett cannot.

I used to be a JT apologist, but even I can't support him after this game. Without question, he's a great leader, game manager/distributor, and statistically the best QB to ever play at OSU , but he doesn't have the physical tools to will a young and non-elite level talent offense to win games against defensives with above average to elite talent. He's essentially a less decisive Tim Tebow.

I've slowly come to realize that JT was so effective because he had high level talent surrounding him in 14 and 15 (Marshall, Smith, and Thomas), a killer o line, and the best RB in college in Elliot to bail him out when he needed it. For the past two seasons we've had an average to ok receiving corps overall (when compared to elite defensives) and a leaky o-line( mainly the right side, not trying to pick on Prince, but it's obvious). JT is not good enough to overcome these deficiencies.

I'm sorry to say, but I'm ready to see what Burrow/Haskins can do. I know it sounds like panicking 2 games into the season and after a non-conference loss, but what's the use of winning the big ten, sneaking by against TSUN, Penn st, and the b10 championship game only to get embrassed like last year in the CFB playoffs. I know we have other issues with the back seven and playcalling, but it's really exasperated by the lack of a reliable offense. JT, I love you man, appreciate what you've done at OSU and will always remember 14, but it's time to move aside.

I'm over of seeing people blame the whole game on JT. Yeah he's accountable but so is every other aspect of this team. Swiss Cheese Buckeyes.

We just turned over our entire secondary and most of our LBs. Only the die hard homers were expecting brilliance right out the gate. Our DL was excellent for 1 half against the presumed #1 OL in the country. Overall, our D held Oklahoma to 3 points at halftime (despite needing some lucky breaks along the way).

Conversely, we have a 5th year senior at QB who can barely complete a pass beyond the 10 yard marker (and when he oh so rarely manages to do so, our receivers let it pass right through their hands). With this QB, we needed 2 flukes to put up 3 points by the half. At this point, a 5th year senior QB should be able to complete the very basic requirement of his position - complete a forward pass. Plain and simple, I don't think JT can do that effectively anymore. I love JT the individual - he is one of the finest men to put on the Ohio State uniform. But it's time to call a spade a spade.

One more thing - I guarantee people will be getting back on the JT train after he completes 22/30 for 300 yards against Rutgers, Purdue and Maryland the next few weeks. That's how we'll get plastered by an actually decent team at the end of the year.

Everytime JT throws a screen he sends a telegraph to the entire nation that it's coming. He looks nowhere but right there. Anytime his first option to pass isn't there he's screwed. He is mentally out of it. I do believe he's better then this, but he looks completely overwhelmed right now. He is missing basic stuff that a decent qb has. Not to mention he just does not step up as a leader at all. He is contributing to the downfall more, then stepping up to be a leader. I had such high hopes for him by now. Players aren't supposed to get worse at OSU as time goes by. It's all kind of hard to fathom

He use to be great at throwing a screen in stride to the a RB or WR. I think Herman made a point of it and he can't even throw any pass without the receiver standing still.

Indeed. I wasn't convinced that the passing game was fixed last week at Indiana but I still thought OU's defense was terrible so it wouldn't matter. Silly me. Lighting up Army, UNLV and the bottom of the B1G won't really change anything.
