Game Thread Ohio State vs Oklahoma, 09/09/17 @ 7:30 ET (ABC)

I feel at peace about this already. Oklahoma is a legit contender -- we are not. I'd rather drop and play for the B1G, see how the team progresses and the young'uns grow; who knows how the season might play out. But this isn't a title team now, clearly, and it's hard to see a path to it becoming one.

So being that's the hand we're holding, I'm good with not expecting this crew to be better than they actually are. Won't play the tired "all the talent lost to the NFL" hand, we're better than that. We just don't have it. Meyer needs to figure out who has fire and who doesn't. We're in team building mode as if it's the pre-season.
We're supposed to be at this stage. We played above our level in 14 and cashed in, but this team should be able to run a competent offense at this point. I can watch teams with lesser talent run an offense 10x better than this. This is a fucking crime against football.

That's Coombs.

Hard to argue his technique when he's produced six 1st round picks.

I've been quite critical of Coombs ever since he came on, and I am no longer afraid to voice this opinion since I won't get roasted for it now. Fact is, DB is one of those positions where athletic ability > technique when it comes to evaluating prospects. I've read several NFL articles where coaches state they essentially have to retrain our DBs when they get to the league. The one I am remembering in particular was about Roby. We recruit incredible athletes, it is not a huge surprise they make it to the league. The coaching... I am less sold on.
