Great start by the offense, big letdown through 2nd and 3rd Q. Gotta expect some of that with Fields and it's hard to know if they were working on anything. Just hope the OL improves a lot going forward. Defense looks great, didn't struggle much until they were rotating in 2nd teamers and had been on the field for a while. Expect a lot from them this year.

I don't think the dialed it back. In the NFL you do that, but in CFB the MOV is too important to rest on your laurels with just a 28 pt lead. I think they adjusted to what we were doing and we didn't adjust as much. The only time in CFB when you truly lift the foot off the gas is when your backup comes in for mop up.

I thinks it's more early season type of stuff where they aren't fully in a groove yet and hopefully they clean it up over the next few games. Conditioning could be another part which will be better as the season progresses.

That's all this is... offense losing its focus for 3/4th the game.

Defense played very well but was put in 2 tought spots due to turnovers.

IMO on offense we've got to run JF. We've got to allow him to take over games.

Which maybe we do considering the next few games, but we can't be so predictable on offense if we are going to challenge.

D was impressive today. Gave up only one big play. Held FAU to 22 yds on 33 carries. Only allowed a total of 228 yds. And much of that was against our 2nd and 3rd team guys. Also got a number of sacks today. Overall a really good performance for a new scheme, new coaches, etc. Also few penalties in D!

Offense was hot and cold. Fields had a really good game for his first start. Four passing TDs and one rushing TD. Ruckert with two TD was really nice to see. JK did a good job as FAU was selling out to stop the run. Can't put the ball on the ground though. Teague looked really good in his limited time. We ran very few crossing patterns today if iirc. Few penalties on Offense today!

Special teams played well. McCall did well with his returns. He can be a difference maker down the road. Nice kick and coverage on the punts.

I still go back to this; the defense looked great and the stats were fine but gave up 21 to a decent offensive team.

You simply have to win with your offense in this day and age. Defenses are going to give up 20-25 to almost anyone with a pulse.

This game got uncomfortable because the offense went from ludicrous speed to emergency stop

Agreed. 4 Tds and no turnovers is great.

The defense was really good minus the few times it was hung out to dry.

I can’t believe I have any complaints considering how slowly we’ve routinely started against lesser teams. That said, I’m concerned about the offensive line. No way they should be handled by FAU’s front seven, but they were. Fields didn’t have much time to throw in the second and third and they did a good job boxing in JK. That needs to be fixed in a hurry. The catbears are fired up for next week and Indy almost always gives us a game and FAU isn’t as good as either of them.
