Ohio State Now "Other Ohio Team"

With all due respect, this entire argument is silly and can be ended with a simple review of the ticket sales for "Ohio's BCS team's" first ever BCS bowl game. One can go to Cincy's website right now and get tickets for face value. Face value too much?? Go to ebay or any ticket broker website and get tickets for about 20% of face value. Sell your allotment of tickets, show some passion for your team, then MAYBE you can complain about a lack of respect.

Precisely his point, H&G. The Bearcat's impressive season in the BEast and their subsequent unprecedented BCS bowl bid has apparently been met with a collective yawn by the fanbase.

Hardly an enthusiastic ushering in of a new era in UC football greatness.

My first contribution to this dissapointing thread, but I can say, bush league antics aside, congrats to Cinci on a great season and a great bowl bid.

Here is my take on the thread....

Although ORD is being pretty douchy (what else is new), Honor & Glory needs to realize that he is on an OSU homer board. Feel free to make that argument on a UC board to OSU posters starting shit but on BP...let it go.

I learned that lesson when UD played OSU in the NIT last year. Please take advice from me.....you will not change anyones opinion so let it go.

Congratulations to the Bearcats. It's good to see Brian Kelly build on the foundation that Coach D laid. I hope Coach Kelly was sincere in saying Cinci isn't a stepping stone anymore, because I'd like to see him stay there, since it'd really suck if he wound up at some school up north in two or three years. :tongue2:

I think you're all missing the bigger picture: That a late December, early January matchup of OSU/UC would be a helluva lot more intriguing than the Browns/Bengals.

while UC has never tasted a football national championship, OSU's one in 30+ years is not exactly a dominating trend, either.

Not OSU bashing, as most will accuse me of, but merely stating a fact.

well, you have to make it to the game to have a chance, and we've done that twice in the last 3 seasons.

and if you took an All-Star type team from the rosters of both you'd probably find a team that could beat Cincy or Cleveland (in their current state) no less than 50% of the time :p

Does ORD play for the Buckeyes? Did he make his comments on national TV? Think of things in the context they're stated in and realize what's going on here.
Wait, why would classless comments be any more or less classless just because they were in front of a camera? And FWIW, I think Gilyard is an absolutely stand-up individual; for the way he stopped to apologize to that little kid he accidentally ran over, for one, and for another, he pretty clearly tried to couch his statement so as not to offend OSU. Obviously, UC is not a more illustrious, more accomplished program than OSU, and it sure sounds to me like Gilyard knows it and wants the chance to beat the best in order to be the best, because he thinks his team can do it.

Eh, I say go for it. This has never stopped me

what did he say that was disrespectful to OSU?

go ahead. I'll wait while you write the transcript and twist his words into something their not. It is beyond laughable how sensitive Buckeye fans are...

Seriously, the kid said he wanted to play Ohio State and you're all panty bunched??

"We feel we're the big brother in the state".

Nobody is "panty bunched" over a UC player saying he'd like to play OSU. But there's no reasonable way to read the above statement other than as an assertion that the UC football program is superior to the OSU football program. Let me note that I'm not especially upset about this since i) one player's comments aren't particularly important, and ii) the assertion is blatantly false. But it is impossible to seriously argue that he was not saying that OSU's is an inferior football program to UC's. I speculate you'll argue that since he said "We feel...", he was simply stating an opinion of confidence in his own team, that any player should feel. By that criterion, any player can make any disparaging comment about any other program that he cares to, as long as he precedes it with the magical words, "We feel". That's baloney. If an OSU player were quoted as saying, "We feel UC is and always will be an inferior program to OSU", I'd think he was being an unnecessarily insulting jackass. And at least that jackass comment would have the benefit of being likely true. Gillyard's comment was both an unnecessary putdown and blatantly untrue.

And no, he wasn't talking about this year alone (as in, we feel we have the better team this year), since he preceded the above comment with, "We want to settle this [non-existent] big brother/little brother debate once and for all". He took a shot and put down OSU's football program. That's very, very far from being a big deal, but you can't seriously argue that he did otherwise.

I haven't read past page 3/4 on this thread, and I have to ask, why get riled up over it? There is no reason to have a 12 page thread on this topic. Every dog has its day. Tell you a number: 1921. Thats the last time an Ohio team defeated OSU. 1921. Lets leave it at that and move on.

Technically, they're not. They were only folded into the state system in 1977 to keep them from going bankrupt. They're not our brother. They're more like a broke ass cousin who was invited over for Thanksgiving out of pity but who has the gall to demand to sit at the head of the table and carve the [censored]ing turkey.
