This year the Buckeyes will host!!!

The Buckeyes drew the number 1 seed and a first round bye into the quarterfinal where they will face the winner of #8 seed Wisconsin and #9 seed Purdue.
OSU's quarterfinal match is scheduled for Friday at 9 am.

Play gets under way today in the B1G men's tennis tournament in C'bus.
Play is scheduled for the Varsity outdoor tennis courts.
Bad weather could force it to the Indoor courts.
The #1 seed Buckeyes open play with a quarterfinal match Friday 9 am against the #8 vs. #9 seeds, Wisconsin and Purdue.

Chris and his brother when they were in high school were a tremendous doubles team. His brother could also play a very good game of singles. In fact, he would beat Kobelt in a high school match what Peter did not have to play him on his way to winning the State singles championship because Watterson is a Division II school.
At first glance, Ohio State tennis player Chris Diaz doesn’t look intimidating. At 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 140 pounds, he’s a full foot shorter than the Buckeyes’ top player, Peter Kobelt.

But that’s one element, his coach says, that makes him a “perfect storm” of a player.

A neuroscience major, Diaz has the mental toughness and competitive drive to try to win every point, along with the consistency and endurance to surprise foes who didn’t expect shots to be returned.

“He can play 20-, 25-ball rallies and take the life out of his opponent,” said OSU head coach Ty Tucker. “They think they’ve won the point two or three times, but his speed and ball-striking abilities keep him in the point.

“He frustrates them to no end — that’s his best quality.”

For almost all of Diaz’s matches this season, the approach has worked.

The Hilliard native and graduate of Bishop Watterson High School is 29-4 heading into this weekend’s Big Ten tournament, which Ohio State — ranked No. 4 nationally — will host.

Diaz is playing his first year of college tennis, having redshirted last season because of the tough competition on a team that has reached the NCAA quarterfinals for the past seven seasons.

Buckeyes take the quarterfinal match of the Big ten Tournament over Purdue by a 4-0 final to advance to the semis Saturday morning at 9:30 am.
Lots of good play today, especially the strong work of Ilie VanEngelen who played both #2 doubles and #5 singles, and put a point on the Big Board for the Scarlet and Gray at both positions.

Is there a reason why BTN has to show the tennis championships on tape delay (on-air May 6)?

They've done this every year for all Spring championships, outside of baseball/softball. I hope it's not a lack of resources (since we're more than five years in).
