OSU vs. TSUN today at Noon.
Buckeyes prevailed yesterday in front of a crowd I would estimate to be close to 1000.
Was nice to see the elite of the OSU athletic dept come out to cheer on this special team.
Championship Match is scheduled for the Varsity courts adjacent to the Woody Hayes Athletic Complex, however if it rains the championship will be moved indoors.
The weather Saturday was beautiful as was the Buckeye performance.
I am really excited to see the level of play that a couple of Bucks are hitting right now, Rola is ripping with confidence and when he is on, is nearly untouchable in NCAA's. Also with Ilie Van Engelen contributing at #5 with the level of play when he made all Big Ten as a Freshman, it adds another solid W in the bottom of the lineup. Chris Diaz at #6 does not have many weapons other than solid, persistent mistake free tennis. Diaz has the ability to get better as the match wears on and his opponent wears down. His contributions will make this team extra dangerous.
Tucker is a master at coaching up i.e. talent development. This team is in the best shape of their lives and they seem to really enjoy chemistry with each other.
Tuckers in game fist bumps are fun to watch, but the tactician that made Tucker a winner on the courts, has carried over at the consultant level. Buckeye's performance rises with the Tucker mix of encouragement and strategy at changeovers.
Three Buckeyes in particular should contribute their noteworthy improvement to his tutelage.
It is obvious that this squad is hungry to take a deep run in the NCAA's.
But first Bucks need a win today over their archrivals in tennis and football.

The ITA computer rankings will be released May 2, today's win and USC's loss to UCLA yesterday will assure the Buckeyes at least a #4 seed in the NCAA team tournament.
Hopes of a #3 seed are probably very slim even though the Bucks defeated #3 Georgia earlier this year.
Realistically the #4 seed will put the Buckeyes on the other side of the draw and avoid the probable #2 seed, undefeated Virginia until a finals matchup.

Buckeyes are warming up indoors so the cameras and video streaming will allow fans to follow the action live online.

I tuned in sometime between 9:30 and 10:00 AM this morning and the tennis team was playing "soccer tennis". It was like this (video below) except it was 3 guys vs 4 guys and they were serving behind the serve line.

My guess is that it would be classified as just "goofing off" before the official warm ups. :tongue2:

The NCAA tournament "selection show" will broadcast on NCAA.com Tuesday at 5pm et.
Regional sites will be announced, with Columbus a likely regional host selection.
64 teams will be placed into the 16 regions with 1st and 2nd round matches played the weekend of May 10-12.
Winners from each region advance to the NCAA championship tournament hosted at Champaign Urbana, Illinois May 17-25.
If OSU advances out of the region the tournament will probably placed the Buckeyes as a #5 or #4 seed in the tournament draw.
Would love to see this special team take a deep run into the tournament.

Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex

The Fighting Illini tennis teams welcomed a new addition to the Illinois family in the spring of 2009. The Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex, made possible by the gracious donation of UI alumnus Shahid Khan and his wife, Ann, complements the Atkins Tennis Center by enhancing the amenities and makes the Illinois tennis facilities among the best in the country. The Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex added 12 new outdoor championship tennis courts located on the east side of the Atkins Tennis Center, with a center spine dividing the courts into two halves. Along with the courts, a new building structure was attached to the east side of the Atkins Tennis Center, forming a new entrance to the indoor courts. Two new locker rooms for the men's and women's teams, a new sports medicine area, tennis pro shop, pro shop office and storage, and new public restrooms all were added as well. The Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex was officially dedicated on Sept. 12, 2009, though it had already been put to great use a few months earlier, as both the men's and women's tennis teams hosted NCAA first and second round matches in May. In June 2010, it was announced that the University of Illinois was selected to host the 2013 NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Championships for the first time ever.

Just wondering: Is Ohio State's outdoor tennis facilities adequate to host the NCAA tennis finals?

Wow that would be fun!!!!
Big shout out to the Athletic Dept, Great to see Archie and Gene out for the tournament, no admission fee, the OSU hospitality and facilities for the Big Ten tournament were exceptional, and the crowd really turned out Friday for Purdue and Saturday for Illinois.
Some fans even stayed around for the semi on Saturday afternoon, Gracelhink and Mrs. Gracelhink both got a heavy dose of sun Saturday.

This is purely Gracelhink speculation on your ScriptOhio question ...
The new OSU outdoor Varsity Tennis Center is probably adequate to host a tournament championship although it "only" has 10 outdoor courts.
Illinois' Khan tennis complex has 12 which allows for 2 team matches to be playing simultaneously, a major advantage for hosting both men's and women's NCAA championships.
The issue is not so much if OSU is "adequate" but rather that the NCAA will have other facility options with 12 courts available and thus the selection committee for future sites would probably opt for a 12 court site over the OSU site.
End of Gracelhink speculation...

WOW, a 6 hour match....

Kentucky ekes past Mississippi State in SEC tournament during six-hour match

After more than a six-hour match, and a spot in the Southeastern Conference quarterfinals on the line, No. 11 Kentucky outlasted No. 9 Mississippi State 4-2 at the Gillom Sports Center on the campus of Ole Miss.

Beck Pennington clinched the match on court five with a 7-6 (7), 6-0 win after more than 360 minutes of tennis action. Pennington and Mississippi State?s Zach White exchanged service holds for the opening 12 games of the match before an epic tiebreak decided the winner.

Kind of frustrating is the ITA computer ranking system, I know i raised the same rant last year, but the inequity of the system is frustrating.:(
Seems like every year the Bucks get downgraded by a weaker schedule and conference opponents (none in the top 20).
Even though they play many quality opponents, have more total wins, and fewer losses, the numbers don't factor in head to head wins or weight numbers of losses.
I saw these projected numbers on a Texas tennis blogsite, where the blogger had crunched the computer formula twice, like the ITA will do tomorrow.
The Texas Blogsite Formula projects
#1. UCLA (24-1, 84.88 points)
#2. Georgia (22-4, 77.36 points)
#3, Virginia (24-0, 77.32 points)
#4. USC (23-4, 70.91 points)
#5. OSU (31-2, 70.26 points)

I would love to see this seeding for OSU in the NCAA championship draw,
Buckeyes at 5 could have a potential quarterfinal matchup vs. USC, who is reeling from 2 key injuries.
And with a win would have a potential semifinal matchup vs. #1 UCLA, who I think OSU could take in a close match.
The other section would easily favor undefeated Virginia.
Georgia will struggle to reach the semi.
