Kobe won his consolation first round over a very strong opponent Dennis Mkrtchian of UCLA by a 7-6, 6-2 score.
The back draw will offer Peter with some excellent competition, confidence to play at the top of the OSU lineup, and a chance to gain points to climb the ITA computer rankings.
Next up for Kobelt is an 11 am match today vs. Florient Diep of U Fla.
Go Bucks.

Unfortuantly I had to leave the finals early, but it was one exciting match!

Chase was up against Kyle Edmund of GBR (ranked 810 in the world)

Chase lost the first set 6-3, got broke first game of the set, and couldn't find a break
I left at 3-3 in the 2nd set, but he was able to hold onto til the tiebreaker and win it 7-4 in the
Now, the 3rd set...he found himself down 1-5 in the 3rd! saved off double match point, and came ALL the way back to win the championship 7-5 in the 3rd

During the early signing period, the OSU Buckeye men's tennis team picked up a commitment from the #1 Junior (under 18) in Croatia, Marko Goles Babic.
Babic is a 6'5" righthander who excels indoors.
Winner of the 2012 Croatian Indoor Open tournament, he appears to have bumped into Blaz Rola this fall on several occasions as well as former Buckeye Steven Moneke.
Babic's greatest strength may be in double's where he is presently partnering with Rola's former partner on the European futures tour.

Lost the #1 Ohio player and National #10 to Stanford and I do know that Ohio State was very interested in him. The kid played for Cleveland Orange and won the Division II Ohio high school singles championship last year as a junior. I think it is a big loss for the Buckeyes.

Yale Goldberg is going to Stanford. He is from Hunting Valley, a blue chip, #31 rated recruit in tennisrecruiting.com class of 2013.

But the best recruit in Ohio is Maksim Kan of Orange, according to Tennis Recruiting he has not signed, down to Texas and tOSU, he would be the better college player, w/ greater upside. i.e. Ty really wants him.

Love to see the local recruiting pickups for tOSU but the international tennis scene is a hotbed for college tennis recruiting, which cannot be overlooked or neglected.
College coaches are finding high levels of talent overseas, i.e. a nation's premiere athletes are raised on tennis and do not share training time or are allured by other sports.
World top 11 pro player rankings (Federer, Djokovic, Murray, Nadal, Ferrer, Berdych, Del Potro, Tsonga, Tipsaravich, Gasquet and Almagra) all hail from Europe where tennis is a primary sport.
Highest USA pro player is John Isner at #14.

Still celebrating the solid pickup for Coach Tucker in #226 ITF junior, Babic, turned 18 in August, is playing on the pro tour as an amateur, and at 6'5" has the kind of stature and potential of a Rola or Kobelt.
