Game Thread Ohio State at Penn State, 10/22/16, 8:00pm ET ABC/WatchESPN

The bottom line is that we are a young team and got exposed today. Our line could not block and our receivers could not get open. The line did not give JT time to find receivers and they could not open holes for our runners to run through. The one long run was opened up by Weber.

We are in if we win out.......

If three or more teams are tied, steps 1 through 6 will be followed until a determination is made. If only two teams remain tied after any step, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.
1. The records of the three tied teams will be compared against each other.
2. The records of the three tied teams will be compared within their division.
3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of finish (4, 5, 6, and 7).
4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents.
5. The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding exempted games] shall be the representative.
6. The representative will be chosen by random draw.

Refs were awful. The timeout before halftime was stupid when pedo had multiple timeouts of their own. Rushing the field goal team out there was very stupid. The o-line was horrible. Are teams baiting us into switching to an option play? We've called it into edge blitzes and been crushed seemingly every time it's run the last two weeks. So many special teams issues. That was not a horsecollar and was pass interference. Pretty much had a perfect storm going against us.

It seems like J.T. Barrett was told not to rush the ball. He looked like he hesitated a lot when normally he would just tuck the ball and run. The play int he 4th quarter seemed like his usual stride, except it was ruined by a false start. I think the coaches are to blame for telling him not to rush hard.

The other problem was the field goal attempt in the 4th quarter, they should not have tried to rush the clock on such a long kick especially with the weather. It was a stupid decision and it's not surprising the kick was blocked.

I don't know if it was OSU's defense that was the problem but on a couple of those drives Penn State was just possessed, 5 plays for 90 yards. I think they wanted the win and we were just going through the motions. Lesson to be learned, never underestimate your opponent.

The offense needs to learn how to catch, and J.T.'s last throw on the final drive seemed pretty good but it wasn't completed.

Two observations re: the whole season.

The Buckeyes play with no sense of urgency ie too methodical. Get to the line of scrimmage and run a damn play instead of being so damn cautious.

And JT appears afraid to throw the frickin' ball down field.

>

And three after tonight's game absolutely no one will be afraid to play this team.

But four, if the Buckeyes beat MI it's a good year regardless!

I'm not trying to be completely Pollyannish, but we are an absurdly young team, and the wheels came off the bus a couple weeks ago. If it takes this loss (like the VaTech loss) for us to fix what's broken -- then so be it.

I don't like calling out coaches, and that's not what I'm trying to do here -- but Warriner is one of the best OL coaches in the country. I'd like to see him focusing on that and we bring in a true OC.

The OL needs help. To say the left side was porous would be so so generous. But it's not just on them. There are plays even every console gamer know to counter an aggressive rush -- indeed we see those called against us ALL the time. And yet we power run up the middle over and over right into designed run blitzes.

I actually think JTB played a good game. Not great, but good. I think we're suffering at WR besides Noah and Samuel (who is more of a jack of all trades). Baugh has moments, and then other moments. We lack a burner, which is odd, because we don't lack for burners. Very curious.
Nah I think the o-line is fine. Just very young. I think this is the youngest o-line we've had since Meyer's been here and they've played remarkably well up until this point. Stud's done a hell of a job imo.

What the fuck? Random draw?

This is a young team, perhaps the youngest and least experienced in college football. Second week in a row in big time, night time game with a team thar had an extra week to rest and prepare. The refs blew it on key plays. They and their coaches failed the test.

If this team plays like this against TSUN, they will lose. In fact, it seems likely right now. I am shocked, disappointed, and self-moderating--but not so much that I fail to see that day has not yet come or that this team can still not play for the NC.

How are we in? Based on which step?
