Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

That is a bet I will take, not a result I will enjoy by any means but we cannot ignore what we see on the field. Our O-Line is overrated, it is good when Beanie is in there, and average when he isnt. One look at todays game is proof positive. An elite line like maybe our freshman recruits may someday grow into, would blow open holes that Mo not Beanie Wells could run through: they cant and he didnt.

I'm a USC fan but I try to stay away from the Kool Aid and come at CFB with a level head. That said, my level headed analysis of the OSU vs. USC game is that yes, if OSU plays like they did this week against USC, they will get crushed.

Pretty deep analysis, huh?

Chances are, the OSU team we saw today won't even make the trip to Los Angeles, much less stink up the field like they did against OU. I just doN't put much stock in games that are played against bad opponent that you know you can beat with your F game and by using only a third of your offensive and defensive playbook. Yeah, OSU has some serious problems to address over the week and Tressell needs to light a fire under his players' asses and get them to realize the very real possibility that they may fly all the way accross the country to get shellacked by the Trojans. I doubt anyone of the Buckeyes is in the business travelling thousands of miles to get creamed, so I expect to see an energized, hungry, and very, very different Buckeye team next Saturday than I did today.

To be objective though Notre Dame sucked, Texas was like 9-4, and Michigan got it handed to them by USC after we beat them. I'm happy with the wins and they're over traditionally elite schools. However, dont get on me too hard here, name me a team though that we can classify as ELITE. Lost to Texas when they were Elite, Florida, and LSU when they were elite. Bottom line is we haven't been doing enough good things in my mind against ELITE teams. Sure, we've beaten some good teams but none that the nation can look back and say "damn, that was impressive".

I guess you know you could classify Texas in 06 as an Elite win because afterall they were ranked #2 at the time regaurdless of how their season went ( ditto for Michigan that same year) however as that season unfolded we found out that neither of the two were as great as we'd thought. Not our fault though.... This is the team we need to beat to let people know we are elite. If not beat but compete and we'll still be considered among the best. IF (notice the IF) we lose handily to USC I will consider us a program who has feasted on an average schedule the past couple years with some big name teams that weren't as good as usual. Now, we've dominated the big ten for the most part which is cool, but I think we'd be crazy if we got blown out to think for a minute that we're still the creme of the crop.

I'd for sure not want to see us in another BCS title game if we were to lose big this week regaurdless of how the season were to go for us. Even if we run the table the rest of the year I will not care, send us to the rose bowl because our schedule after USC (while still having some good tests) will be manageable.

Wether we like it or not USC, is seen in the eyes of the public, as the best team for the latter part of like 4-5 years now. If we beat USC man that would make everyone shut the hell up finally

Are you dizzy from all that spinning?

Right because OSU didn't belong on the field with Vince, or Miami, or a number of other elite teams over the years.

The attention span of college football fans and their ratings are so shallow, painfully so that no one even notices Oklahoma's struggles. In 05, OSU stumbled twice, but finished strong against a suspect opponent and was worshipped. Georgia followed the same model.

Life is much easier away from the top. Like all those "more worthy" selections who couldn't avoid awful losses down the home stretch to let OSU back into the title game.

I'm sure somehow OSU's performances the last few years, including this one, will extend to next year's team, even though the personnel, schemes and execution will be completely different.

Actual analysis is not nearly as convenient as stereotyping.

On a second though I may be just a little on edge from todays very poor performance so excuse me if I sound a little desperate. I just want to see the guys play to the level I know they can play at!!

As far as the spinning I was just trying to walk on a balance beam (insert jokes here) that was made for my little sisters and that shit is nuts haha...

Place your bets, ladies and gentlemen.

Well shit. Now that you put it that way....I'm just glad every reciever that ever beat a FS was bigger than the WR. Otherwise, that little comment would be fucking retarded.

I dunno if you were speaking about my peice or not Jwins so excuse me if I step on your toes here my man.

I only said the past couple years from about 2004 till now. We definately could've beat Texas in 05' for sure but you know we didn't. Close atleast told me that we were among the Elite that year. We're still amongst the top I think but I think we've done enough damage the past couple years that we need to make a statement here this week in USC. If not a win, atleast a very competitive game (which I see happening, either of the two).

I'll always pick OSU to win, but well I think this game to me right now is a toss up with my biased opinion giving the buckeyes the edge!

Obviously OSU has much to prove. Outside of perhaps USC (hype and results) and UF (hype), everyone else would kill for that kind of attention and expectations. LSU obviously has great success as well, but the expectations are nowhere near as consistent for them.

If UGA trips up one week but wins a big BCS bowl, to the general populace it's an impressive season. Same with OU, Texas, West Virginia (before today), etc, etc. Do that at OSU and it's a failure.

Life is tough near the top.

Funny thing is OSU would avoid much of the 'SEC speed' mouth-breathing if they had better b10 big uglies like they had a few years back. OSU has added a lot more athleticism and talent at the skill positions since then, but have yet to regain that physicality.

To be fair we are not talking about OSU over the years, just the recent crop.

The difference in '05 was that we proved our worthiness on the field, albeit in a loss to the eventual national champions led by the most dynamic player in college football in the last decade. Our defense on that night did something that no other teams in America, not even the eventual runnerup SC, could do to that Texas offense; we completely shut down Vince Young's running that night. And you darn right that's something to be proud of.

We haven't defeated an eventual top ten team in two years. If we don't beat SC, it would be three years. That's not only embarrassing, only accentuated by our lofty ranking, it's approaching Brady Quinnisque.
