Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

Good. I wish it was even more lopsided.

I agree. It's better to play as the underdogs than the favorites. Ohio State can play with more intensity without the pressure of not choking as the favorites.

All I can ask for is Ohio State to play with passion and execute well because that's the key to winning games.

By the way, does anyone know how well Ohio State travels to the Rose Bowl? I'm aware of a large fanbase in Arizona, but do you guys think that OSU can get at least 1/4 filled in at the Rose Bowl.

...It makes me wonder what these fans would be doing if we were in Michigan's shoes right now.

I would doubt that you could get 1/5 the stadium filled with Buckeyes. USC fans will show up in massive force, people around here haven't seen a game like this in a while. And by the way, the stadium isn't the Rose Bowl.

Hate to admit it but I can no longer ignore our dismal O-Line play against lesser opponents in so called warm up games. If we are really an elite team we should be blowing them off the line on nearly every play, not just when we feel like it. On the other side of the ball the DT"s are getting little to no push up the middle, once again against in theory lesser opponents. I love my Buckeyes and have been rooting for them for probably twice as long as most of you have been alive, but if we play a weak zone defense like we always do in big games, and if our lines do not play lights out it is gonna be ugly. USC in a big way 42-10. We are the best team in the Big Ten, we will make it 5 in a row against SCUM, but we will get out asses handed to us in this game. :(

I'll put up five times whatever you have in vcash right now. How's about it?

I'll take my team, you can have USC. Straight up.

20,000 of my vcash against your 4k?

I might have been confused, but didn't USC sign a lease to use the Rose Bowl? Are they still at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum instead?

That is a bet I will take, not a result I will enjoy by any means but we cannot ignore what we see on the field. Our O-Line is overrated, it is good when Beanie is in there, and average when he isnt. One look at todays game is proof positive. An elite line like maybe our freshman recruits may someday grow into, would blow open holes that Mo not Beanie Wells could run through: they cant and he didnt.

WOW! That's a fairly depressing way to look at things. Are you sure you're not feeling a bit of the Ohio game hangover? Lose to USC and you have a different look at the past 3 seasons? Really? ND, Texas, Game of the Century all lose some of their impact?

To be objective though Notre Dame sucked, Texas was like 9-4, and Michigan got it handed to them by USC after we beat them. I'm happy with the wins and they're over traditionally elite schools. However, dont get on me too hard here, name me a team though that we can classify as ELITE. Lost to Texas when they were Elite, Florida, and LSU when they were elite. Bottom line is we haven't been doing enough good things in my mind against ELITE teams. Sure, we've beaten some good teams but none that the nation can look back and say "damn, that was impressive".

I guess you know you could classify Texas in 06 as an Elite win because afterall they were ranked #2 at the time regaurdless of how their season went ( ditto for Michigan that same year) however as that season unfolded we found out that neither of the two were as great as we'd thought. Not our fault though.... This is the team we need to beat to let people know we are elite. If not beat but compete and we'll still be considered among the best. IF (notice the IF) we lose handily to USC I will consider us a program who has feasted on an average schedule the past couple years with some big name teams that weren't as good as usual. Now, we've dominated the big ten for the most part which is cool, but I think we'd be crazy if we got blown out to think for a minute that we're still the creme of the crop. We can beat USC but I will admitt that I am worried about the mental state of this football team. They know they've been blown out for the most part the last two times they've played a great opponent, and I worry they may forget that they are just as good and that they can win this game if they just play their game.

I'd for sure not want to see us in another BCS title game if we were to lose big this week regaurdless of how the season were to go for us. Even if we run the table the rest of the year I will not care, send us to the rose bowl because our schedule after USC (while still having some good tests) will be manageable.

Wether we like it or not USC, is seen in the eyes of the public, as the best team for the latter part of like 4-5 years now. If we beat USC man that would make everyone shut the hell up finally

Today's struggles will surely be used to motivate the entire team this week. I have a feeling that there is going to be some pissed coaches and pisssed players come practice time.

Practice will be intense and come Saturday, our boys are going to be very motivated against a very good USC team.
